Maps, alternate routes, how to

I have been using Waze on my iPhone as I drive and liked it, particularly because the users experiences shaped the information it provided it showing alternate routes, police position, construction, road condition etc. What I didn't like is Google's handling of privacy. So I stopped using it and migrated to Maps. The most frustrating thing I've encountered in migrating is Maps not showing me alternate routes. Apparently Apple believes it's AI knows better the best routes then the local experience. I'd rather the app make suggestions to me, serve me then the other way around.

If there is a new feature in Maps that unlocks alternate routes I'd like to know about it.
