iPad Pro 11” dropping WiFi or so it seems

New iPad Pro just loses connectivity to internet/WiFi for no obvious reasons many times a day - all other wireless devices on the same WLAN function correctly while I have an issue - what’s up with that?

iPad Pro 11-inch, Wi-Fi, iOS 12.1

I have this same issue but only with a USB-C to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter plugged in. The Wi-Fi stops working randomly once or twice a day only when this adapter is plugged in. If you also have this adapter plugged in, there is a workaround that has worked for me the last two times this happened. If not, you have a different issue than mine.

I have been using my second iPad Pro 11 for just over a day now. It seems to drop connectivity the same way my first one did. It freezes in multiple apps and says that the server is not responding. When I restart it,everything works fine for awhile. I restarted five times in the last 24 hours. I’ve chatted with Apple Support, and will have to go back there to explain that the second Pro 11 behaves the same as the first. I’ve never had an Apple product I didn’t love - until now.

Just upgraded to the Apple ipad pro 11” 2018 model for both myself and the wife... we are both having problems with wifi drop out at home, connection for one hour then drop out... reconnect and repeat... spent a considerable amount of cash and yet we both have the same problem. I am reading this is a known and common problem with the new iPad pro... is Apple intending to release a patch to address this?

I have this same issue as well. It has been happening frequently - every day or two - since I got the iPad less than a month ago. It’s very frustrating to have something new and encounter a problem like this. My iPad Pro 11” disconnects from WiFi after I’ve been using apps for a period of time (half hour to an hour is the typical time frame). The apps where this happens includes Safari, Facebook or Instagram to name a few. You’re using the app and all at once see a message that you can’t do something off-line. Then I have to open settings and reconnect to my WiFi. This never happens with my third generation iPad which I still have and it doesn’t happen with my iPhone 6S. I have tried all the steps in the link above including resetting the wireless settings. That lasted a day or two. It typically. This needs to be fixed! I would hate to have to return the iPad and contact my credit card to get a credit. It happened twice this evening, once when I was trying to post this!

It has only occurred when the unit is not charging - at least as far as I know. I don’t use the unit when it’s charging.

I have a new IPad Pro 11 inch and have the same connectivity issues but no dongle or headphones. At first I thought it was the Folio Keyboard but it is not. Thee is no consistent action. It just happens. I thought it was when it went to sleep and came back up but I have had it happened while in Safari and using the web. The router shows connected but won’t go to any page. Everything else works with the router. We have a regular IPad and two IPhones and the kids come over with Apple products. Everything works fine except the IPad Prfo. Apple is replacing it but I worry that the problem will persist since they can’t find anything wrong with the unit

I am waiting for the Apple Store to get a replacement in; they were out. They said if the new one didn’t solve the issue it was environmental I.e. something in my house. After reading these other posts I beg to differ.

I have two other IPads, two iPhones and other apple products when the kids come over. No WiFi issues with anything except the IPad Pro.

Saying it is a WiFi issue is a little misleading. The WiFi icon at the top of Safari shows connected and WiFi in settings shows connected but nothing will work on the internet: Safari, Email, Security cameras all do not work.

So glad I found this thread! I’m having the same issue too. Bought my iPad Pro 11” on the day they debuted. I’ve noticed that if I’m on a webinar for longer than 30 minutes that my WiFi just randomly drops. Sometimes I’m using my AirPods, but sometimes I’m not. I don’t have anything plugged into the USB-C at that time.

I will try just keeping it plugged in the whole time next time to see if that fixes it.

Not feeling confident about the fact that folks who received a replacement iPad Pro are still experiencing the same issue. Apple, FIX THIS ISSUE. This is effecting my work productivity!

This was absolutely an issue prior to iOS 12.1.3 when using the USB-C to headphone dongle. It seems that under certain conditions, the iPad will look for network connectivity over USB-C regardless of what you've plugged in there. Some have said that they can produce the issue by sleep/wake cycling the iPad and I can confirm that this was the case for me, too.

Updating to iOS 12.1.3 seems to have patched this. I can wake from sleep and continue using WiFi with the Apple USB-C to headphone dongle.

My wife is experiencing WiFi disconnects on a new model iPad Pro 11 inch. The disconnect lasts just a few seconds then is ok. My iPad Pro 12.9 inch model has not had this happen.

I've had her switch from WiFi provided by an AT&T Wifi router to an Apple Airport Extreme that is ethernet connected to the AT&T device to see if the problem presents via that device. I have also restarted the AT&T device.I also have an iMac with 10.14.3 using WiFi to the AT&T router and don't think it loses its WiFi connection, and a iPhone Xs also uses the AT&T WiFi with no drops that I have noticed.

All the devices have the latest version of iOS and macOS.

Similar experience here, Larry. My iPad Pro 11” is connected wirelessly to a Linksys router which is Ethernet connected, although the source is an AT&T WiFi router. It is a 5Ghz wireless connection. My other devices (both PC and Apple) connected wirelessly to the same router do not have this issue, although they are mixed 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz.

I have the same problem where my iPad Pro disconnects, and then I have to go in and reconnect it manually or wait several seconds for it to realize that it has disconnected. All of my devices are on the latest versions of o/s software.

Is there a way to get this information beyond our group and to someone who’s an actual Apple employee who can advocate on our behalf? It sounds we all have similar issues. I don’t use my USB C for anything other than charging. So though the problem may happen when using USB headphones, etc., it seems to be an overall defect. At his point we’re just getting corporate speak denial from the Apple store employees. We need to find a way to get this escalated higher up. Any ideas?

I'm fairly certain that this is not a router issue or related to router properties. I can reproduce the problem at home (single band 5GHz), in various public WIFI hotspots, at my parents (single band 2.4GHz). There's somthing wrong with the device or software. People have stated that even replacement units started to show the same issues.

Apple needs to start working on it.

One ironic fact: Apple support wanted me to connect to ITunes on my pc to obtain some logs. My IPad Pro came with a usb-c connector on both ends; no full size usb. I don’t use ITunes but I couldn’t if I wanted to without buying a 19 dollar adaptor. I declined to buy one. What “genius” thought this was a good idea? The lightning connectors have a USB connector on the other end so you can connect to a pc, any USB port or the plug in.

After a total of over six hours spent at an Apple store or on the phone I am about ready to ask for my money back. I will wait and see what they come up with in the nest week or so.

So tonight I tested my iPad Pro 11” on a 1 hour webinar, but this time plugging it in. Same issue. It dropped WiFi signal after 34 minutes. Note that it’s attached to a dual band router, the 5Ghz connection. And, I was listening via Bluetooth through my AirPods.

Next time I’ll try the 2.4Ghz to see if that makes any difference.

I really think this is a software issue. Apple can probably figure it out once they invest time into it.
