Can't open numbers docs

Getting "to open this spreadsheet you need latest version of numbers" on my iMac (10.10.5 Yosemite)

Checking compatability I need 10.13 or better. Can't upgrade to mojave my machine is mid 2011.

I'm thinking that because the files were changed on my iPad they've been altered to latest version.

Is there any way to now open them on my mac?

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

In addition to Wayne's suggestion, you could use iWork for iCloud to open them in a web browser on your Mac. You can then work on them there or export them to another format. Excel would be the most compatible.

export from your iOS device to excel, then share with your iMac.

thanks for the response. I don't have or want to use excel & I'm not sure how to share with my mac anyway.
