notification email address as appleid

When trying to change my apple id I receive a message: your,new,apple,id,cannot,be,the,same,as,your,notification,e-mail,address.choose ,a,different,e-mail,address. The email address is no longer being used as a notification address on the account. How can I change the apple id?

Hello ***62,

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities and asking about changing your Apple ID. Please verify you are following all the steps as provided in this help article: Change your Apple ID - Apple Support

When did you create the Apple ID you are trying to use? If it was the last 30 days, the article states:

If you try to change your Apple ID to an @icloud.com email address created within the last 30 days, you might be asked to try again later.

If this is a third-party email address and the above area does not apply, please sign in to your account and verify your email address is not being used in any other secondary locations. This link will help: Apple ID account page - Apple

Thanks and have a wonderful day.

I have seen information different than the above. The iCloud part is correct. If your e-mail address was associated with the ID in any way, for example as a Reachable at or Rescue e-mail address, then it can't be reused with another Apple ID for approximately one year. I have also seen posts that stated Apple told them there was a 30 day waiting period before the address could be used again. You will need to get another e-mail address to use as your Apple ID.
