Numbers Update 5.3

I can't open my documents in Numbers anylonger and get prompted to update to the latest version of Numbers. Quote> 'To open this spreadsheet, you’ll need the latest version of Numbers' End of Quote.

When I click on 'Update' the ball starts circling but nothing happens. I'm usong OS 10.11.6, is this version not compatible with the latest Number update and if so, where does this leave me?

Any help and suggestions very much appreciated.

The only iWork apps available in the Mac App Store, Numbers 5 as well as Pages 7 & Keynote 8, require High Sierra, macOS 13.x. or Mojave, macOS 14.x. You need to update the OS before you can update the apps.

Thank you very much. I learned in the meantime that I have (and can not) put another update in my iMac
