Spacebar double space (Macbook Pro 2018)

Hi Apple Forum,

I've had my Macbook Pro 2018 since August and have been noticing an issue with the spacebar where I often type double spaces when I press the spacebar only once. Also, the spacebar is not registering sometimes in very specific spots. I have been typing with other keyboards and not been experiencing this issue.

I have seen that people suggest turning off key repeat settings which I have done fully but that doesn't seem to affect the space key for some reason. Is this is a software issue or hardware? It is very frustrating and I have seen other posts about it but very minimal support.

MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2018, 4 TBT3), macOS Mojave (10.14.1)

Keyboard Service Program for MacBook and MacBook Pro - Apple Support try this. I tried the suggested solution. It doesn't work because it's an actual well-known defect in the hardware with an unfortunate class-action lawsuit with it. Apple was kind (if you will) to offer me this link. The agent seems to be genuine. Apple has a reputation that they must uphold and this would be unacceptable. Therefore, I hope this link helps. Taken my MBP in for repair and free of charge. I should not have mentioned their employer as it incorrectly implies credibility in my reply. Apologies for that. I didn't beat the space bar, just tapped it multiple times a little harder than normal typing.

I have the same issue as seen when I'm typing this, expect mine has just got significantly more frequent and has escalated to the spacebar not even working at times. Will have to get to the apple store at some point, disappointing considering how much this laptop is.

Your thinking is very narrow. You're equating price with perfection. They don't go together. You're suggesting that an expensive laptop should be 100% perfect and problem free. While that's the way it should be that type of thinking is not realistic with mass produced products. You can't get perfection on a $100k car.

Never mentioned anything about perfection and not suggesting it should be 100% problem free but it is disappointing to see and experience an issue on such an expensive laptop with a fair few others the same. With my nearest Apple store over 2 hours away it’s nothing but an inconvenience at the least and was simply posting my experience so far.

You actually did when you said it was "disappointing considering how much this laptop is." You're equating price with perfection.

And that's why you can ship it to Apple at their expense. Everybody gets inconvenienced sir when they have to go out of their way to get something fixed regardless of the distance. Just deal with Apple and get it fixed. Expressing personal feelings here isn't going to help anything.

This is ridiculous i have a macbook pro for school studies and i use it for video and photo editing. this space bar problem is sucha pain i have had my spacebar replaced literally last weekend (4 days ago) and already its broken again.Im noteven editing this. its my typing outcome; anyadvice

Just got my first Mac and and so underwhelmed. If they can't build a proper keyboard then it's the last I'll buy from them.

Let it be known, I am on my 4th MBP since September with this issue. JUST TONIGHT the 4th one started double spacing.... zero Apple care knowledge on it... what a ******* disaster.

Same problem. I waited until 2018 to buy a Macbook Pro with the "new" keyboard. What a disappointment.

And I write professionally, so it's a real business problem now for me.

My Macbook Pro 2018 has this problem. Sometimes it's worse then other times but it is so frustrating.
