Bluetooth dropping connection

I have the iPhone XS, iOS 12.1. My Bluetooth drops connection when I put it in my pocket or have it behind me. This happens with all Bluetooth devices; Apple Watch 4(current iOS), AirPods, and my car. I have tried resetting my phone, setting it up as new without restoring from back up, restoring with iTunes. Once I pull it out of my pocket it connects almost immediately and will hold connection as long as it’s out. I am leaning towards it needing to be replaced, but didn’t know if this was a known issue or I’m just special.

Bluetooth depends on both proximity and a clear line of sight. If you don't have that between your devices, then you can expect a spotty connection.

I could see that if I was wearing thick pants or the Bluetooth device was a few feet away, but we’re talking maybe a foot at times. I find it hard to believe that a pair of denim pants and 6 inches distance would kill a Bluetooth connection.
