AHT error codes

AHT returns the error code 4BAT/6/40000005: 0x80c22d90

Can anyone tell me what the last part indicates?

The battery is new but is not charging so I would like to know if the new battery is no good or is the problem elsewhere (like the charger or the logic board)

System profile indicates battery installed:yes or battery installed:no intermittently depending on how many times I reset SMC

I have tried most things including SMC hard reset. Bizarrely Coconut battery indicates battery date back in the 1970s and battery temperature at absolue zero.

Hi bekway,

Thanks for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. I understand you've recently replaced the battery in your MacBook Pro but it's not taking a charge and you've repeatedly reset the SMC with no change. I also see that the information about the battery being installed intermittently changes when you look at the system profile and you're seeing an error after running Apple Hardware Test on your Mac. I can see why you'd reach out for assistance with this; I'm happy to help. First, take a look at the information below to ensure you're using the correct wattage adapter:

My battery isn't charging

Confirm the correct wattage AC adapter for the computer. A power adapter rated for a lower wattage than is required for the system might not reliably charge the computer.

For assistance identifying the proper adapter, review Find the right power adapter and cord for your Mac notebook. Additional adapter troubleshooting is available in Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters.

For issues you cannot resolve, contact Apple or take your computer to an Apple Authorized Service Provider or Apple Retail Store to find out which service and support options are available. Be sure to share the Apple Diagnostics reference code with Apple or your service provider. If you plan to visit an Apple Retail Store, make a reservation at the Genius Bar (available in some countries and regions only).

Hi Moozito,

This is very helpful, thanks. However it does not solve my issue. Your point about a faulty AC adaptor is something that had not occured to me. I checked it and it the correct charger and it's working fine. I also used another (identical) charger on the faulty Macbook and get the same "not charging" result. So that's not the problem.

I have been in touch with Apple of course: first they will not supply just a new battery but the whole backcase and keyboard and they insist on changing it themselves at a cost which exceeds the actual market value of the computer.

My real question concerns the AHT code "0x80c22d90" which might indicate the underlying problem: is it a faulty (albeit brand new) battery or is it the logic board or another issue? Unfortunately your link to the Apple Diagnostics codes does not list AHT error codes which apparently are top secret and only available to Apple technicians.

I'm not quite sure what to do.
