find my iphone erase not working

I tried to erase my son's iPad with Find My iPhone - Erase and it didn't work. Was connected to WiFi and I was able to Play Sound and use Lost Mode to lock it but when I tired Erase it is stuck in Erase Pending.

The iPad appears to be logged into his iCloud account so why doesn't this work??

iPad 2 Wi-Fi, iOS 12.1

Thanks for the suggestions but re-starting didn't work - and let's be clear - even if it had that doesn't solve the issue: remote erase is supposed to work Remotely. There are lot's of people using iPads because of their overall very good security but if remote erase isn't working that's a serious bug.

It's still a bug and here's what;s causing it: attempting to erase an iPad from another iOS device that is on a different iCloud account but both are in the same Family Sharing group.

When you try this, not only does it not work, it prevents erasure from the iPad's own iCloud account!

Here is the work around until this bug gets fixed:

If you cancel the erase request from the iOS device you originally requested it from then you can re-request it from the iCloud account that the iPad you want erased is on. So always use iCloud on the web while logged into the same iCloud account.

Hello roboman53,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities! I understand that you are trying to erase an iPad using Find My iPhone, however it does not appear to be erasing the device. You've come to the right place for help.

If you haven't already done so, try restarting the iPad, then check if the erase completes:

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

If you are unable to erase the iPad using Find My iPhone, or the device is disabled, you may need to restore the iPad using iTunes instead:

If you forgot the passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled - Apple Support

Take care.
