JDK popup / removing Java/JRE / HighSierra

I recently (finally) upgraded my MacPro to High Sierra. Since then I keep getting the message:

'To use the "java" command-line tool you need to install a JDK.'

I'm certainly not doing development, so have no idea why it wants me to get the Java Developer Kit instead of just the Java Runtime Environment.

I did a search here on the forums, and then remembered needing to download and install the "javaforosx" file several years ago. I usually use Chrome instead of Safari.

Unfortunately, I had already downloaded the current jre file, which is "jre-8u191-macosx-x64" and installed it. I still am getting the error.

I went to install the javaforosx file instead, and it tells me that I already have a newer version installed.

So -- how do I uninstall the jre? There is no "uninstall" option when I load it.

When I look at the Oracle website, it lists a terminal command -- that's fine, except that the folder they describe doesn't exist on my computer. (See the link below)

JDK 8 Installation for OS X

Anyone with current experience with this?

Thanks!

Mac Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6), MacBook Pro, iPad2, iPhone 7
