Issues with iPod Touch USB connection to Ford Sync 3

I have a 2016 Ford Mustang with the Sync 3 and am connecting an iPod Touch with IOS 12.1 via USB.. Following the latest series of software upgrades, the voice command system has become very intermittent. It will periodically fail to find playlists when called for, it won't hold the playlist being played when the car is stopped and restarted, if I start the car from having previously been listening to the radio then try to use the voice command to switch to USB it will occasionally fail to recognize that any USB device is even connected.

Any out there with similar experience and/or what can I do to go back to the seamless connection I used to have?

iPod touch, iOS 12.1

Hello EFThomas,

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities and asking about connecting your iPod to your car. I am happy to help.

Please check this help article when you are experiencing the issue with your connection: If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod doesn't connect to or work in your car - Apple Support

If you connect using USB playback

  1. Restart your device and your car.
  2. Make sure that your device is unlocked and on the Home screen.
  3. If possible, try to connect using another cable or USB port. Check your car owner's manual to learn how to connect an Apple device.
  4. Check your charging port for any debris or damage. Make sure that your charging cable is inserted fully into the port.
  5. Update your device.
  6. Install any firmware updates for your car stereo.
  7. Try playing audio from a different app. If you can't play audio from a third-party app, contact the app developer for help. If you can't play audio from an Apple app, contact Apple Support.

You also mention that this issue only started after the iOS update. The car stereo may need an update to work with the new iOS. Please check the manual for the car or stereo on how to update it. Thanks and have a wonderful day.
