.Mov files not playing

HELP!!

Need to understand why videos captured on an apple iPhone 4, those videos transferred from the iPhone to my apple macbook and then moved to an apple time capsule are not playing on my apple macbook. When I open the .mov file, quicktime opens up, processes some conversion and simply plays 1 sec of the video. Any idea why older iPhone .mov files won't play in their entirety?

Quicktime won't open .mov files created by iPhone XS Plus at 4K I recorded high quality video files on my iPhone XS Plus -- 4K at 24fps. I moved these files over from my phone via two methods: via Image Capture onto my iMac and via Dropbox uploads. My mac will not open these files in quicktime despite them being .mov files. iMovie also refuses to open these files. I don't understand how I am supposed to view these videos once they leave my phone.

quick time player problem : 2012 Macbook Pro cant import videos from iphone 7 Hi, I have a 2012 macbook pro ( MacOS Sierra 12.10.6) and the quick time player does not support the format of the videos that I take with my iphone 7 12.4.1. I cant import videos through photos, I get message that the filr format is unrecognisable. Even if I airdrop the videos, I cant play them with quick time player because the file is not compatible. Obviously this has something to do with my old mac only having Sierra as O can import and play these videos from iphone on my husbands latest mac How can I resolve this ? Thank you in advance
