Quicktime Buffer Overrun Detected Error with Vista

I downloaded the latest version of QT when I got my new computer two weeks ago, and it looks like everything installed correctly with QT, but I cannot playback any of my .MOV files. I get an "Buffer Overrun Detected!" error window, and it sometimes shuts down Windows completely. Any ideas?

Everyone who's having this problem is most likely using Nvidia graphics and if so the fix is to use the drive version 97.94 instead of the newer 158 or 162 drivers because they are causing the overrun problem and problems with other software that uses quicktime components. so just uninstall the graphics driver and download version 97.94 and install that and you should be running fine after that!

It is the Nvidia video drivers because I had that same issue but on Windows XP Home Edition. I did what that guy said on his last post uninstall the newer Nvidia Video driver and install an older driver on the CD that came with the video card. So, Quick time works just fine here my specs
Proccessor AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600 2.4GHz
Motherboard MSI 7250
Video Nvidia Geforce 7100GS PCI Express Origonal CD Driver Version 9.1.4.7
2GB's of Ram DDR2 Dual channel
256 GB Western Digital Hard Drive
Apple and Nvidia Need To know about this

Hi need some help
Have Windows XP Home Addition and my Itunes stopped working. Believe it to be due to my Quicktime player. I get a Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Buffer Overrun Detected. I was able to uninstall the Itunes completely, but cannot uninstall the Quicktime player. It continues to bounce to a selection of repair or remove, of which neither occurs. I know that if I can fix the Quicktime Buffer overrun detected, I then can reinstall my Itunes and be able to use my Ipod. By the way, my movies all work using media player, also my audio also works when using my other pod, Dell digital jukebox. I appreciate any help.

Hey, my humble 2 cents. I had the "Buffer Overrun" error as well on my 2k,XP, and Vista machines. I deleted C:\Documents and Settings\$CurrentUser\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer, then deleted C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Apple Computer, and when I tried starting up Quicktime, it said some stuff about reinstalling. While it was doing that, I deleted the contents of C:\WINDOWS\system32\QuickTime. Now I'm sitting pretty watching BMWFilms. 😀

Ok, I was having the same issue and it was driving me nuts (Vista w/ Nvidia 8800 GTS, latest drivers, 680i MoBo). I think that just by chance I stumbled on the solution. I ran Windows Update just to make sure I have all the required updates, and I had all but one: An optional Nvidia driver update for Nvidia nForce Serial ATA Controller. I have a print out of the update installed but I can't upload it here. You can go to http://picasaweb.google.com/cmiquila/NvidiaDriverDowload/photo#51078752827653163 38
And see the image of the message after installation. To install it, just go to Windows Update and install all the updates including the recommended one, or search for this one. Hope this helps. So far it had for me. Not sure on a solution for ATI graphics cards

Sorry, I left it a touch ambiguous. Replace "$CurrentUser" with your user account. It's easiest to navigate the folder tree. Start from "My Computer" then "C drive" then "docum"...... But I wrestled with this Gremlin for 5 months and through 3 re-installs and everything would get munged up somewhere between installing SP2 and ACE Mega Codecs. Hope this helps save someone from some huge headaches.
