I have used Photos to order calendars as Christmas presents for many years. This time, however, the "place order" button is greyed out and will not allow me to select it. What could be the issue?

Apple does no longer accept orders for Print products - books, calendars, cards, prints since September 30.
We now have to use third-party project extensions. These are available in Photos 3.0 on High Sierra or Photos 4.0 on Mojave. Which version of Photos are you running?

It's more a question of "when" than "where". I have seen the alert in iPhoto and Photos in August, when there was still time to finish the projects and order them. But Apple seems to have removed it now.
If you can still have the original Apple projects, save the projects as a PDF, then upload the PDF to Presto Photos or Mimeo and have it printed this way. In Germany, you can also upload to photographerbooks.

I have had a look it wants 5 pounds a month just to look at that I am not funding Mac they are no way a charity.
