How to transfer mp3 podacsto itunes

Hello. I have downloaded MP3 podcasts from a website (not the Itunes store) into a folder on my MAC desktop. I want to transfer them to my Ipod.

Here is the recommended metho (2017):

In Itunes Library, click on the File menu, then select Add File to Library... Browse to the .mp3 file you want to import as a podcast, and choose it. This file will now show up in iTunes Library under Music. Right-click on the "song" and choose Get Info or Album Info.

I got as far as 'This file will now show up in iTunes Library under Music'. The rest makes no sense.

How do I proceed so that the folder of x podcasts will appear in the library list of downloaded podcasts so I can transfer them onto the Ipod?

thanks

If you put your device in disk mode you can copy files to it from the desktop using Finder, but they won't get added to the device's database, so it won't be able to play them. Nothing has changed in this respect in the 12 or more years that I've used iTunes and iPods. You add content to your library, then you sync that content to your device, or drag and drop within iTunes. If you present iTunes library doesn't contain all of the content that is on your device then you should fix that issue now with the steps in Recover media from an iPod - Apple Community. You can then decide what to copy back to the device, including your new audio file which you can define as music, podcast, or audiobook as you see fit.

Terme,

Do you have an iTunes library that you have been using to sync the iPod? if so, you can add the new MP3s to it, and re-sync. If it is the first time syncing on a new computer, you get the warning as shown. So in that case, yes, Remove and Sync is the correct choice.

If you have content on your iPod that is not in your iTunes library, you can recover it per the procedure recommended by tt2.

Thanks, conversion to 'podcast' worked partly.

  1. I can play the podcast on the computer via Quick Time.
  2. I attached my Ipod to my MAC computer to transfer the podcast. The podcast shows up on the list of other podcast programs which can be transferred but when I try to transfer it (i.e. 'sync' the Ipod), nothing happens - it does not transfer.
  3. Although in MP3 format, it also does not play on Itunes on the computer.

Can you assist further. Much appreciated.

Thanks for responding and sorry for not responding sooner. The podcast claims to be MP3. It is from

www.supremecourt.gov/oral_arguments/argument_audio/2018

and is the oral argument in a case argued before the Supreme Court. All cases are in the same format.

The problem may be in I-tunes itself which has never worked properly since upgrading to 'El Capitan', x years ago and the upgrade to successive OS's has not improved remedied the problem: Every podcast download now takes minutes (not seconds) and just as long to save. Meanwhile the multi-coloured spin-ball spins.

Thanks again for any help.

My Itunes should be the latest because I always update when prompted. I am, of course, assuming that you get prompts to update Itunes exactly as you get prompts to update all other Mac programs (e.g. PAGES).

I have succeeded in playing the audio files on Itunes following the advice of 'ed2345' but, as explained in my reply, I still have no idea how to transfer the files from my Mac to my Ipod. The downloaded files are located on my MAC in the following folder sequence: MUSIC -- ITUNES MEDIA FOLDER -- MUSIC FOLDER -- UNKNOWN ARTIST.

Any help would be appreciated.

regards and thanks.

ED, thanks for all your advice but nothing works.

Terme,

You are welcome, but that is not true. If you click "Remove and Sync," you will find that the Argument is synced to your iPod!

You could be cruising down the highway hearing both sides of the issue of labeling for atypical femoral fractures!

The dilemma in your case is what to do with the songs that are already on your iPod that are not in your iTunes library. The choices are pretty clear: you can kiss them goodbye, or you can first rebuild your library by the referenced methods.

Pls let us know what you decide! Good luck.

Ed, I am back to square one. I followed the instructions to remove everything loaded on to the Ipod by the previous owner,

I then opened Itunes & went to ‘File — Add to Library’ and then selected the folder with the 2 downloaded files. I click ‘open' and nothing appears to have happened.

Greatful for further help.

Hi Terme,

I downloaded one of the audio files at that site (specifically Merck vs Albrecht about atypical femoral fractures!) and it worked fine.

It was a 29 MB MP3, about an hour long. I left it as type=Music (did not change to podcast). It played fine in iTunes, and synced successfully to both a fairly new iPhone and an old iPod.

The file is unusual in that it uses a sample rate of 48 kHz (the old DAT-tape standard) instead of the more normal 44.1 kHz (the CD standard). That may be causing problems somewhere in your set-up. However, it did work fine on the computer as well as both devices. If you try again, leaving it as Music instead of Podcast, does it work for you?

Thanks, I can now play the downloaded audio files on I-tunes on my MAC. The remaining question is, how to transfer the files onto the I-pod and I would really appreciate help on this issue.

The downloaded files are located on my MAC in the following folder sequence:

MUSIC -- ITUNES MEDIA FOLDER -- MUSIC FOLDER -- UNKNOWN ARTIST.

I am used to getting audio files from the Itunes store. Once you 'subscribe' to a program, everything 'just happens', and it is easy to transfer them from the Mac to the Ipod. However this process has no relation to what I am now trying to do. What do you advise??

Thanks and regards.

Ed, thanks. I followed the instructions you sent. I opened Itunes and attached the Ipod.  Attachment (1) shows that the Ipod is recognised and that ‘Music’ is highlighted. However, the rest of the screen is inactive. The only ‘active’ option available is to click ‘Sync music’ and if I do this, I get one option: delete everything on the Ipod (Attachment 2). Obviously 'something' is missing. Any ideas?

Thanks again!
