How to transfer mp3 podacsto itunes

Hello. I have downloaded MP3 podcasts from a website (not the Itunes store) into a folder on my MAC desktop. I want to transfer them to my Ipod.

Here is the recommended metho (2017):

In Itunes Library, click on the File menu, then select Add File to Library... Browse to the .mp3 file you want to import as a podcast, and choose it. This file will now show up in iTunes Library under Music. Right-click on the "song" and choose Get Info or Album Info.

I got as far as 'This file will now show up in iTunes Library under Music'. The rest makes no sense.

How do I proceed so that the folder of x podcasts will appear in the library list of downloaded podcasts so I can transfer them onto the Ipod?

thanks

ED, thanks for all your advice but nothing works. Can the files be transferred onto the Ipod without using Itunes? In 2013, it seems you could transfer an MP3 file from desktop to I-pod, simply by click & move, as you move a file from one folder to another. I tried this but the file just bounces back to the desktop.

Regards.
