Keyboard add random Period while typing in certain apps or websites

My Macbook keeps adding a period after certain words while I am typing.

This doesn’t happen in all apps. I have noticed this happen mainly in the Outlook for Mac app, Whatsapp App and the google gmail while i’m logged onto it via chrome.

Not sure why, this is not consistent and doesn’t happen all the time.

When I restart my computer, it is better for a bit and then comes back again.

Also, the “ , “ was not working until I reset my laptop and it started working again. so i din’t think it’s a Hardware issue.

There is a setting under System Preferences>Keyboard>Text to turn on adding adding a period with a double space or not. I'm guessing yours is on.

Mine is turned off. Now the system adds random double spaces. I suspect we have the same issue here.

I have filed a bug report with Apple but no response yet.

Yes, I'm afraid it is a hardware issue. I took my new MacBook Air to an authorized repair shop in January, and it has been working perfectly since they replaced the keyboard. I bought Apple Care, since I was still within the window to do so, and there are plenty of people on this forum and others who describe replacing their keyboard more than once.

I have a 2017 15" MBP (Core i7-7820HQ with Radeon 560 Pro). This problem (random period insertion while typing in Text in any app including Safari field entry) only occurred after upgrade to Mojave 10.14.4.

This is NOT a hardware issue for me! This is purely due to a bug in 10.14.4 which randomly generates a double key press of the space bar and converts that to a period based on the default setting in Settings -> Keyboard -> Text -> Add period with double-space. Removing this setting fixes it, however, it leaves the false double-space.

Apple needs to fix this in a software update.

I think the problem is compounded by the fact that some keyboards do have an issue. My new MacBook Air was adding random periods and spaces at a very high rate and after the keyboard was replaced it stopped. But recently I have started noticing occasional double spaces (and periods, if the setting is enabled ) on both my Mac mini and my MacBook error so I imagine there is a software issue at work as well.

Does this persist if you use an external keyboard? That would definitely point to a software problem.

See if you have the same problem with an external keyboard. If not, it probably is are hardware issue.
