iPad Pro touch screen intermittent unresponsive

I have the iPad Pro 10.5 inch for roughly 4 months. I started finding intermittent touch issues that have been random. Its extremely bad when playing games where precision touch and timing are critical. Just normal day to day usage for email, web browsing, etc. you would not notice it much unless you attempt to draw in notepad, then I can see how occasionally it does not register touch while sliding a stylus and other times, its like a rapid touch response.

I have performed every single thing I could find from others having the same issue, and from the looks of how many complaints about this, it sounds like either design flaw or iOS issues. I have tried the following:

  • Turn off and on
  • Hard rest/restart
  • Clean the screen frequently
  • Removed the expensive tempered glass Screen protector
  • Switched case to a case that has no magnetic close
  • Use the Apply plug instead of a multi-usb port charger
  • Turning off Bluetooth
  • Turning off Background App Refresh
  • Turning off Multitasking
  • Etc...etc...etc..etc.

Nothing has worked and seeing all the various forums and posts from people, this is a big problem a rather massive quantity of people have with the iPad Pro's. This weekend I have just had it with this very new iPad Pro that is driving me crazy... I hit the forums looking for anything i have no tried and its all the same, nobody knows and many have just given up on iPads, a lot of people have turned their iPads in under warranty only to find the refurbished units they receive all have the same issue. I am right there with them, I have absolutely loved the Apple devices, my house nearly all Apply, TV's, iPhones, iPads, MacMini's, etc.

I was preparing to erase my iPad Pro and send it back, but gave it one more try, i literally went through every single setting, turning off every single feature and hard restart. After that, the issues are so far gone. I may have a pretty much featureless iPad Pro right now, however no more intermittent unresponsive touch, so i suspect its an iOS issue! I have no interest in turning on any settings one at a time until the issue returns, for now hoping it will eventually be resolved and i can turn everything back on, i just need to not deal with this issue for a while as it has nearly turned me away from Apple products going forward. As expensive as these devices are, we should not have these kind of issues.

Goto Setting -> General -> Accessibility -> Touch Accommodations, Turn on Touch Accommodations. Leave everything else in the options alone.

Maybe you are having different issues from everyone else here.

Your posting is the first of this unresponsive touch screen issue affecting 6th gen, 9.7 inch screen iPads.

This unresponsive touch screen issue has mainly for the last 9-10 months affected a small, but growing minority of all the years of pads Pro models only.

Maybe you should post your iPad 6th gen issues as a new seperate question post.

When you post a new question about your 6th gen 9.7 inch iPad, be more specific about its issue.

Many users here can help diagnose your iPad 6th gen issues, as I believe you are having different issues than everyone else here in this posting and this posting shouldn't go off-topic IF your 6th gen iPad is having a WHOLE ‘nother issue.

Thank You.

Yes,

The behind the scenes Apple Support Community moderators are here pretty much 24/7 now and they monitor if a post violates the terms of use of these communities and can edit and/or delete postings if they are in violation of these terms.

Someone else that I was replying to just now got their posting deleted, as well.

Apparently we are all to a tender subject for the company in this particular thread. Only vague insinuations of displeasure can be posted (many posts of mine now “removed”). I will now abide the community terms of not ranting although not all parties in the purchase of my product, abided providing products that work as advertised or are remedied in a reasonable timeframe outside of years of no solutions at all access points for official help. Hopefully that can change and customers with valid issues can be addressed as promptly as payment was due for the product.

You are correct.

These support communities are strictly for troubleshooting and advising solutions to Apple product issue.

Not for general social media-like postings with grumblings, ranting and angry posts about Apple and its products.

This is not the place for that.

As I posted recently on this page, back at the bottom of page 16, there is an Apple iPad feedback page that I linked to, as well as a direct call contact page to actually discuss your iPad Pro issues with actual Apple customer service and technical support employees directly from Apple headquarters in Cupertino, CA that you can calmly talk to about the iPad Pro unresponsive touch screen issue.

Older iPads that still have a Home button do not have this Tap to Wake feature to temporarily turn OFF.

As I already stated in a previous post reply here.

For some, the touch accommodations “fix” did not stick and the unresponsive touch screen issues returned as early as a day.

Some, the unresponsive touch issue came back after a couple of days or within a week.

I do not have any of these issues since I am not running iOS 11 or 12 and have kept my iPad running iOS 10.3.3.

This unresponsive touch screen issue really came into its own AFTER iOS 12 was introduced last Fall 2018.

Not sure why this continues either. This is clearly a hardware issue. I've seen 3 Pros of mine have this same issue. I believe it is a battery heat issue as it is more prevalent during this time. I also notice it happen much quicker when using a USB-C to lightning charger for faster charges (Apple charger). The only solution I've seen is replacement. I don't pay for my tablets but it is irritating to say the least. I am using a new 11" ipad pro and will report back if it continues. However, I recommend buying Apple Care. It has happened on EVERY single ipad pro we have at work. I would also recommend selling it once Apple Care is almost up or if you do replace it.

I have not been willing to update my iPad Pro because of fear of getting this unresponsive touch screen issue.

This issue is unpredictable with no pattern of why certain iPad Pro year and models and time of manufacture are getting this iPad Pro unresponsive touch screen bug.

My iPad Pro is still running iOS 10.3.3 and I am NOT having any touch screen issues whatsoever. NONE.

That is why I am convinced this is an iOS 11/12 issue more so than a hardware issue.

But I am not against the idea of this being a combination of an iOS issue coupled with an iPad Pro hardware issue, either.

If you update and don’t face with touch issue we understand that the problem is because of some hardware issues

but i can’t ask you to update your ipad because it is a big risk

i wish I could restore to your iOS version and see my problem gone because I bought a second hand ipad pro 12.9 2nd generation on iOS 12 and the problem begin after few days and now i am so disappointed 😫😫

If you haven’t have this iPad Pro long , see if you can return this iPad Pro and get your money back.

Purchase a discounted, refurbished iPad Pro model from Apple with the option of getting extended AppleCare+, instead.

The person that sold you that iPad Pro may have known and had this issue, already and sold it because that person didn’t want to deal with this issue, any longer.

You may have been sold a problematic iPad.

FYI,

This touchscreen issue affects a growing random amount of iPad Pro users across all three model years.

There is no rhyme or reason to which iPad Pros over those three years gets hit with this unresponsive touch screen issue.

It seems to be completely random issue OR this issue maybe related to common app or apps that everyone has installed on their iPad Pros.

I have no issue with the Microsoft Surface tablets except they try to be two things at once and I don't particularly think these excel at either.

Also, I am NOT a fan or user of MS Windows OS.

At the same time, Surface tablets can be hardware configured with lots of purchase options and these tablets have lots of connection ports and a nice range of input devices.

I am a fan of the Surface Dial. I wish Apple had something like that for iPads.

I like the keyboards that you can purchase with a Surface tablet, too!

I still think an iPad is a better, more dedicated tablet option.

Not a PC/tablet hybrid, like the Surface lineup.

Buuut, I keep my eyeballs on the MS Surface products.

There is a lot to like about them.

Not every iPad Pro made ( even ones made in the last three years ) has this issue, but if you purchase a discounted, refurbished from Apple's Refurbished & Clearance section of Apple's Website and once ypu purchase this, purchase extended two-year AppleCare+, if anything goes wrong, you have, at least, now 2 full years of warranty coverage from Apple for any problems.
