Low Application Memory

What does it mean when I get a low application memory notice on my MacBook Pro?

Check your free disk space. Even though that message screams "RAM", it is often triggered instead by too little free space on the boot disk. Highlight your boot drive's icon on the desktop, then do command i to see the Get Info box for that drive. Looks like this:

The items i've outlined in red are the important values. You want about 10 percent free space for decent performance.
