If your Time Capsule (TC) is providing your wireless network......and.....you have a recent version of the Time Capsule, then the TC is providing what is known as a simultaneous 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz dual band wireless network.

This means that the TC is broadcasting both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz signals simultaneously using the same wireless network name........which is the default setting for the TC

Most WiFi devices will automatically connect to either the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz network based on their capabilities. For example, a device that is 2.4 GHz only will connect to the 2.4 GHz component of the TC wireless network because it cannot connect to the 5 GHz band.

Macs will connect to either the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz network automatically based on their capabilities and distance in relation to the TC wireless router. In other words, if a Mac is close to the TC, it will connect to the faster 5 GHz band. If you move the Mac a few rooms away from the TC, then it will connect to the 2.4 GHz band since 2.4 GHz signals are stronger (but also slower) than 5 GHz signals.

It is possible that some WiFi devices which use very simple connection methods will not be able to detect and analyze a dual band WiFi signal and connect to the proper 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz network component. I'm guessing that your Ring doorbell might be one of these types of devices.

I don't have a Ring doorbell here to test, so you might want to wait for another Ring and TC user to respond who might have the same brand of doorbell that you have to see if our guess is correct.

If you want to go ahead and experiment (with no guarantee of success) and try some different settings for the Time Capsule that might allow the Ring device to connect, post back for more information.

A lot of wireless devices cannot work with Apple routers because of Apple's default naming.

Make the wireless name short, no spaces and pure alphanumerics. You can give the 5ghz a different name if you wish. It should not be essential.

I would also use a password for wireless that matches the above rules.. but can be longer.. try and keep names under 10 characters.. passwords use mixed case and numbers but can be as long as you need to feel happy you have sufficient security.

If you still have issues.. turn off the security just for a test.. and even lock the 2.4ghz wireless to a channel like 8 or 9..

The final factor could be range.. it depends on which model Time Capsule you have, how old it is and the location of the door bell.. but it might be simply a case of insufficient signal.. take your phone or a laptop outside and see if you can connect to the 2.4ghz wireless from the same location.

Still no luck then the Airport wireless is incompatible.. it should not happen but it does.

NEST stuff is the worst from people posting here.. it is not at all unusual to see people with NEST devices having issues.
