Does anyone here have Final Cut Pro 7 ..?

Hi, my High Sierra computer can no longer run FCP7, so I need someone with FCP7 to export my (few/small) .fcp projects as XML (so I can import them into Premiere).

Here is the download link to the .fcp projects if anyone would be so kind,, thanks!

I did another export - this time with "Recompress Frames" checkbox checked, which should fix the rendering glitch.

The new export should play just fine - but in case if it doesn't, try playing it back with QuickTime Player 7, which can be downloaded here:

Yes - the product listing (retail boxes of Final Cut Studio 3) you've sent looks correct to me. Make sure the seller includes the box and the serial number when shipping it to you. And the DVD capture procedure also sounds correct to me.

To download macOS Sierra, visit Get macOS Sierra. After download finishes, "Install macOS Sierra" will not open - that is normal. Because it's time to repartition your Mac with 2 separate partitions, one large (resembling your Sierra installation's volume size), and a small one (around 8 GB). Then, use createinstallmedia to turn the smaller partition into a installer partition, and boot into the installer partition to install macOS Sierra onto the larger, separate partition. After installation finishes, use diskutil in Terminal to merge the Sierra system partition and the installer partition. Note that macOS Sierra is compatible with your 2009 iMac, but is not compatible with your new iMac Pro. Therefore, Final Cut Pro 7 can only be installed on your 2009 iMac. Take this into consideration before making the purchase.

But before all of these, feel free to first give Resolve a try and see how it works out for you :)

I just tried to link the project with the footage you've sent me. However, it seems like there are still a lot of files missing. I can do a bounce/export if you'd like me to do that anyways. See screenshot below:

If you can package up all original media dependency and send them to me, I'll also be happy to export all of them. However, there may be alternative ways we can sort out your projects and timelines, such as partitioning your Mac to install macOS Sierra and Final Cut Pro 7 on a separate partition - so that you can export the video locally. Feel free to send me an email at treeandsunshine@icloud.com, so that we can explore different options and find the best solution for you.

So Resolve (15) crashes when the splash screen reaches "Loading waveform monitor." I googled the issue, and of course there's an infinite list of possible reasons for the problem (yay technology!). Do you know if there's a way around.. or should I go ahead and purchase FCP7? Thnx!

Here is my data btw in case it's relevant:

I just tried to actually import the XML into Premiere Pro CC (File -> Import...), and after relinking the footage you've sent me (File -> Link Media), Premiere Pro seems to have correctly opened up the timeline. See screenshot:

Which version of Premiere Pro CC are you currently running? (Premiere Pro CC -> About Premiere Pro). I'm running Version 13.0.3 (Build 9) - so maybe simply updating Premiere Pro CC to the latest version with the Creative Cloud app (Finder -> Applications -> Adobe Creative Cloud -> "Adobe Creative Cloud" app -> Premiere Pro CC -> "Update") would fix your issue?

If you're able to open the project in Premiere, then there's no need to purchase another copy of Final Cut Pro 7.

Hey so I downloaded Premiere Pro CC 13.0.2 (my CC app didn't offer "13.0.3") and imported the XML file you sent me (MS6) into 13.0.2, and the result was identical to when I tried with both my previous version of Premiere (CC 2017) and with FCPX: a scrambled mess.. Aside from the first few seconds, the playback looks nothing like the video bounce you sent me yesterday (though the exact moment in your image, 50:15, does look the same) .. Any ideas :$

Here's a pic from 13.0.2:

Thanks so much!! Unfortunately when I imported it into Premiere, it was a scrambled mess :$

Somebody else sent me the XML to import as well, and it was the same result.. Not sure what the issue is..

Is it possible you could link this footage and send me a bounce of MS6 so I can at least see if the project is salvageable?

Thanks luming217!!

I really appreciate your assistance!

It's become something of a technical nightmare, but my goal is ultimately to replace all of the current lo-res footage with HD footage. I was hoping if I could get the HD footage recorded at 50fps, it would be easy to swap out for the current 25fps footage.. I was assuming I might be able to do that simply by re-linking the current clips to the new footage (once I have it)..

Hopefully this makes some sense.. thanks again!!

For reference, this is what the current sequence should hopefully (mostly) look like:

What a relief, thanks!!

I'll have to recreate the missing footage, but the majority of the project seems to be preserved!.. Since I'll have to do some more editing first, I'd guess your partitioning suggestion would be the best route for the time being.. Could you explain a bit on how to do that? Do you think Sierra would be the most appropriate OS?

As for getting a copy of FCP7, should I look on Ebay? Thanks again!

Feb 24, 2019 10:26 AM in response to dmiraie

Sierra would be an appropriate OS to run Final Cut Pro 7 as long as your machine is compatible with it. Check Apple logo -> About this Mac. Which year and model is your computer?

Partitioning without an external drive to install macOS Sierra is possible. You just have to create two new partitions instead of one - one for the OS and another temporary one for the installer. Once Sierra is installed, the temporary one for the installer can be erased - and its capacity can be merged with the one that has macOS Sierra installed.

The partitioning and dual booting process can be a little bit involved, and isn’t really well documented online. So feel free to send me an email at treeandsunshine@icloud.com and I’ll be more than glad to walk through it with you via phone call or FaceTime.

As of fixing the project import issues in Premiere Pro CC, it again depends on the particular setup of your machine and projects - it would be easier to discuss over phone call or FaceTime. A possible solution is to first import the XML timeline into the standard version of Davinqi Resolve, which can be downloaded for free from the Mac App Store, and the re-export a XML timeline from Resolve for importing into Premiere Pro CC.

My current iMac is an ancient 2009 27". I do have an iMac Pro on hand, but I was going to wait until I finished this project to migrate my things..

The reason I mentioned purchasing FCP7 is because I wanted to make sure I bought the correct version/product..

Does this look like the correct thing? https://www.ebay.com/itm/FINAL-CUT-PRO-7-HD-FINAL-CUT-STUDIO-3-FULL-RETAIL-MB642Z-A/233143520101?epid=128141815&hash=item36486fcb65:g:~mwAAOSwzaJYAnDe:rk:4:pf:1

Regarding capturing/preparing the aforementioned HD footage (for re-linking), I was told the best way to do it is to take the .vob file from the source DVD, use "Handbrake" to convert the .vob file to 50fps constant frame rate, and then upscale the footage using "Red Giant 4K". Does that sound correct to you?

Since the Resolve route sounds like potentially the simplest solution, I will try that first and report back, thanks luming217!
