lost desktop info to iCloud

tried

enabling and disabling check box for desktop and documents in iCloud Drive but still not fixed!

iMac 27", macOS 10.12

When you open system preferences > iCloud > the iCloud Drive box is checked , click on option button and uncheck the box of desktops and documents a pop window appears , and if you click on turn off .


A second pop window appears , click on show in finder .


The box of desktops and documents will get unchecked , tap the box of desktops and documents a right check mark will appear inside the box and will show setting up .

A third pop window will appear , again click on show in finder .



Click on done and quit system preferences , in finder under iCloud section > iCloud drive you will see all the documents that were created .
