Genius Playlists to Apple Watch Solved (via workaround)

So, I was just looking for a solution to this too. And since the official reply on this thread isn't helpful, since it does not answer the actual question I'm going to answer it myself.

First, it does not appear possible to sync a genius playlist to the Apple Watch - the genius created playlists simply do not appear for synchronization.

The solution is to create a new blank playlist and move the genius playlist song items into it. Here are the steps.

  1. Within iTunes - Create a genius playlist (I'm assuming anyone reading this already knows how to do so.)
  2. Within iTunes - Create a blank 'regular' playlist by right clicking "Music Playlists" and choosing "New Playlist" from the menu and name the playlist.
  3. Select your genius playlist so that you see the list of all tracks and use "command - A" to select all tracks.
  4. Drag the tracks from the Genius playlist to the newly created 'regular' playlist.
  5. Drag the new playlist to your iPhone. (If the genius playlist is already on your iPhone and you've named the new playlist to match you will be asked if you want to replace it. Say yes.)
  6. Sync the new playlist to your watch.
