No Dolby Vision through my Onkyo TX-NR787 after latest update.

I am unable to pass Dolby Vision through my receiver after this last update. Everything worked before the update and my other equipment, Oppo 203 and Firestick 4K, passes Dolby Vision.

Anybody else having this issue?

Apple TV 4K, tvOS 12

Hello again. I am still having this issue.

Like I mentioned previously, the issue seems specific to my Apple TV 4K and my Onkyo receiver (Onkyo NR-TX676). I picked up 48gbps cables just to be sure. From my Apple TV 4K to the Onkyo, Dolby Vision is never an option since the last update (worked flawlessly for months before). From Apple TV 4K directly to my TV, Dolby Vision works without issue. Turned on Dolby Vision at that point and plugged back into my Onyko and it won't pass anything. Needed to hook it back up to my TV and change out of Dolby Vision in order for the HDMI to even handshake on my Onkyo again.

I have an LG UBK90 UHD Bluray player hooked up to my Onkyo too. This passed Dolby Vision without issue. I hooked up my Apple TV 4K to the HDMI cable that my LG UBK90 was using and the exact same issue is present. This means it's an issue with Apple TV and the Onkyo device.

I have also posted about this on reddit's apple TV subreddit and it looks like quite a few other people with similar devices are having the same issue. Here is a link to that forum: https://www.reddit.com/r/appletv/comments/b78faf/apple_tv_4k_dolby_vision_suddenly_stopped_working/

I have encouraged them to come and post on this thread too.

Is there any way we can notify Apple about this issue so we can get it fixed? If anyone could point me in the right direction it would be appreciated.

I'm using 18gbps cables right now, but just ordered 48 gbps cables to see if that changes things.

The extra bandwidth should stay unused, as an HDMI 2.0 port will never output more than 18 Gbps of actual data. HDMI devices will have to follow the specs. If the new cable works where the previous one did not, then the issue was with something else than the bandwidth capacity.

I do. I thought that could have been the problem as well, but I can successfully pass Dolby Vision from my Xbox One X (thanks to the new OS9 update) through my receiver to my tcl. Also, if I plug my Apple TV directly to my tv, I can get Dolby Vision.

There’s a guy on this thread who is experiencing the same issue on his LG, so I’m pretty convinced it has to do with the Apple TV. I just wish I could rollback the firmware on at least my tv or the Apple TV to further test. I may even pick up an Apple TV from Costco just to give it a shot. It’s just that I’m about 35 minutes from the nearest Costco, so it won’t be too soon.

This is what I'm experiencing as well. Since the update... my Apple TV 4K goes to a black screen when switching from Dolby Vision to SDR. I have match content turned ON and this has worked without issue until 12.2. I have to switch inputs on my TV to something else and then back to the Apple TV. Again, this problem started when the unit updated to 12.2. I also tested HDR content and when it switches to SDR, it works fine. It appears to be an issue with the new update and Dolby Vision switching to SDR content. So, I reversed the matching... I now have my Apple TV set to 4K SDR and I played a Dolby Vision title. It switched without problem, but again... had an issue going back to SDR until I switched the inputs and back again. I have a TCL 55R617 as well.

I tried that and it did not fix. Thanks for the suggestion though. Before, my Apple TV was set to 4K Dolby Vision with Match Content ON. As I would watch shows on The CW app, it would switch to SDR from Dolby Vision without problem. Now, it doesn't switch at all and stays in Dolby Vision which doesn't look good. So, now my Apple TV is currently set to 4K SDR and shows that don't support Dolby Vision look great. However, once I play something that supports Dolby Vision it switches, but when I go back to the menu that's when I get the black screen, but audio is still passing. I'm pretty sure there is an an issue with the 12.2 update and Dolby Vision switching to SDR. When I play a movie that supports HDR10, I have zero issues with it switching from SDR to HDR10 and vice versa.

Same exact issue here. Called apple and was told to go to Apple Store to have them downgrade firmware out of Beta. Went to apple store, waited 2 hours to see a “Genius” and was told they never received training for how to do this. They reset the Apple TV (same thing I did AT HOME), and told me they couldn’t do anything and I just have to wait for another update...
