No Dolby Vision through my Onkyo TX-NR787 after latest update.

I am unable to pass Dolby Vision through my receiver after this last update. Everything worked before the update and my other equipment, Oppo 203 and Firestick 4K, passes Dolby Vision.

Anybody else having this issue?

Apple TV 4K, tvOS 12

This is what I'm experiencing as well. Since the update... my Apple TV 4K goes to a black screen when switching from Dolby Vision to SDR. I have match content turned ON and this has worked without issue until 12.2. I have to switch inputs on my TV to something else and then back to the Apple TV. Again, this problem started when the unit updated to 12.2. I also tested HDR content and when it switches to SDR, it works fine. It appears to be an issue with the new update and Dolby Vision switching to SDR content. So, I reversed the matching... I now have my Apple TV set to 4K SDR and I played a Dolby Vision title. It switched without problem, but again... had an issue going back to SDR until I switched the inputs and back again. I have a TCL 55R617 as well.

I tried that and it did not fix. Thanks for the suggestion though. Before, my Apple TV was set to 4K Dolby Vision with Match Content ON. As I would watch shows on The CW app, it would switch to SDR from Dolby Vision without problem. Now, it doesn't switch at all and stays in Dolby Vision which doesn't look good. So, now my Apple TV is currently set to 4K SDR and shows that don't support Dolby Vision look great. However, once I play something that supports Dolby Vision it switches, but when I go back to the menu that's when I get the black screen, but audio is still passing. I'm pretty sure there is an an issue with the 12.2 update and Dolby Vision switching to SDR. When I play a movie that supports HDR10, I have zero issues with it switching from SDR to HDR10 and vice versa.

Same exact issue here. Called apple and was told to go to Apple Store to have them downgrade firmware out of Beta. Went to apple store, waited 2 hours to see a “Genius” and was told they never received training for how to do this. They reset the Apple TV (same thing I did AT HOME), and told me they couldn’t do anything and I just have to wait for another update...

I do. I thought that could have been the problem as well, but I can successfully pass Dolby Vision from my Xbox One X (thanks to the new OS9 update) through my receiver to my tcl. Also, if I plug my Apple TV directly to my tv, I can get Dolby Vision.

There’s a guy on this thread who is experiencing the same issue on his LG, so I’m pretty convinced it has to do with the Apple TV. I just wish I could rollback the firmware on at least my tv or the Apple TV to further test. I may even pick up an Apple TV from Costco just to give it a shot. It’s just that I’m about 35 minutes from the nearest Costco, so it won’t be too soon.

Same... I updated to 12.2.1 and it did not fix my issue. I have it defaulted to 4K SDR, so it switches to Dolby Vision. However, when it switches back to 4K SDR it goes to a black screen and I can hear the audio. I have to switch inputs and then back to AppleTV to fix. Summary: Switching from SDR --> HDR/HDR10 --> SDR = no issues. Switching from SDR --> Dolby Vision --> SDR = black screen w/audio. Did not happen until AppleTV updated to 12.2.

I have the exact same problem. Apple TV 4K-->OnkyoTX-NR787-->TCL P607. I still get Dolby Vision from the Apple TV 4K if I hook it up directly to TV. I called Apple support and got a rude CSA who blamed it on Onkyo. Onkyo blames Apple so I am caught in their loop. Everything worked perfectly in harmony before the Apple TV 4K updated to firmware version 12.2. Two huge giants in technology need to speak with each other to get this fixed!

This is the email I got from Onkyo support.

Hello Ben

I’ve just tried with our TX-NR787 and AppleTV 4K, I was able to pass Dolby

Vision through to the TV. What brand of TV do you have? We have noticed

that some TV manufacturers will enable only the base level Dolby Vision

pass-through which can lead to output issues.

Have you made sure the TV, receiver and AppleTV are all up to date with their software?

Onkyo USA Corp.

We all know it started with the Apple update. Their ATV4K must still be on an earlier 12 iOS.
