HomePod Stereo Pair not working after iOS 12.2

Ever since I updated my homepods and iPhone to iOS 12.2 only one HomePod plays when I play music... Stereo Pair only works when I Airplay from my iPhone to the HomePod Stereo Pair. I’ve tried all troubleshooting steps I can think of including: resetting homepods by removing from home app, resetting homepods by unplugging and tapping/holding till 3 beeps, creating the stereo Pair in initial setup, creating stereo Pair after initial setup of each individual HomePod, ungrouping and regrouping the speakers without a reset, resetting my modem and wireless router, changing settings on who has access to HomePod on my network between all three options... I’m not sure what else to do. I had this issue before and bought a new wireless router as mine was old. This seemed to did the issue before. Now it’s back again and this issue literally makes one of my homepods a total waste... These are the experiences that also make me not want to update software!! I’m a little frustrated and am just hoping that I either don’t have to relegate to waiting for the next software update or airplay from my phone to use the stereo Pair- I love asking Siri to play something I’ll like and just having it work... Any thoughts and or suggestions on how to fix this would very much appreciated. Thanks so much!

Thanks so much! I was so skeptical of unplugging and just plugging back in that I didn’t just do that step alone. I also picked up and moved around the homepods (turned upside down). Doing these two steps fixed the stereo pair! I can say though that picking up and moving around alone did not solve, so the unplugging and plugging back in (without a reset) was key for me.

Thank you so much for providing step-by-step instructions. I have tried those steps several times, and I will say it has worked in the initial reset etc. Nonetheless, the issue persists and one of the HomePod speakers eventually disconnects and it becomes non-functioning. At this point, the only way to get both HomePod speakers in sync is to Airplay. If I don’t airplay, sound only comes from one speaker or if I use manual touch the two speakers play different music. I have the latest software for HomePod. The only other thing may be causing this is I’m running the latest beta software for both Mac OS and iOS yet if that failed on testing but was pushed out nonetheless that’s another entire problem.

Not happening on mine after the update.

Ill repeat the steps again because they’re posted all over the place in different threads now:

  • Unplug the homepods for a few seconds
  • lift the homepods off the surface and rock them gently to recalibrate. When they think they got moved, they adjust
  • try asking them to play music to all, both of everywhere - this may get them back in sync
  • Use another app: Go to a different app on your device which uses HomePod and see if it pairs. This may restore sync.
  • Try swapping left and right - back and forth a few times.
  • On the iOS device that you use to set up HomePod, make sure that you signed in to iCloud with your Apple ID and turned on iCloud Keychain. You also need to have two-factor authentication set up for your Apple ID.
  • Make sure that your iOS device has Bluetooth turned on and is connected to your home Wi-Fi network.*
  • Make sure that the Home app and Apple Music app are installed on your iOS device. If you deleted either of these apps, go to the App Store and redownload them.

  • If they still don’t work:

you can also sign out of iCloud in the home app , then sign back in

check your internet connection and unplug the router for a minute,
