This has been an apple bug for many years which they refused to acknowledge or correct. You can make it happen almost on demand by dictating a series of words or sentences and then if the device is thinking about the translation quickly stop it by pressing The Siri screen on the bottom of your screen to stop the dictation. I have gotten it to do triple a few times. It seems that voice dictation to text via Siri is not a priority for Apple. Big shock

Interesting. As a Mac user who is very dependent upon voice dictation, let me see if I have correctly followed this conversation: Apple voice recognition is AWESOME unless you are working in Safari. The solution is to leave Apple and Safari, and move over to Google and Chrome, (... or dictate a comma every time you want to pause, and then erase it). That’s quite an innovative business model.

I am still asking if Apple ever listens in on these conversations, and maybe even speaks into them: “ Sorry everyone. Thanks for the heads up. We are on it!“ This is a very old complaint, but neither a remedy nor even a word of encouragement. Does Apple watch? Hear? Care? Seriously, I would like to know.

For me it only happens in Safari, and only about 75% of the time. Cut a little slack to people who are seeing slightly different symptoms, OK?

I have a further problem with Dictation, which, like the duplicating, has plagued me in El Capitan, Sierra, and now High Sierra: occasionally dictation will completely stop working. When I hit function twice, the microphone icon pops up but it never shows any of the sound activity—even in other apps—and I have to either reboot or log out of my user account and log back in to make it work again.

I think I've traced the problem to the folder ~/Library/Assistants, by searching for the most recently modified files after one of these dictation crashes. One of the pictured files is corrupting itself somehow. It will take further experimentation to figure out which one, but it still might take a reboot to re-enable dictation because it might have to reload whatever cache that is. Anyway, I figure there's a good chance the duplication problem is stemming from the same folder.

And that's not even mentioning the other dictation problem where it will keep changing what it just typed, and sometimes even remove entire sentences.

This is also happening to me on iOS 13, iPhone 11 Pro Max using voice control/dictation (voiceover is off). It is happening everywhere e.g. Safari, Messages, Notes, etc. Sometimes it will double text, sometimes it will triple text.

I haven’t been able to figure out a fix I haven't been able to figure out a fix. (This is an example of what it’s doing this is an example of what it's doingthis is an example of what it’s doing)

Thanks.

Andora29 (a.k.a. The rubber ducky? 😀):

I guess my frustration is the use of the NH voice recognition on my iPhone. In a previous life, I relied on the Dragon naturally speaking software and continually upgraded Over my 10 years of usage. It got better and better and the recognition became so much better. This software, Mrs. a lot and as you can see from the errors, mistakes words that I enunciate very very clearly. I’m used to it. By the way the NH above was the word in eight and it still won’t except it. It will not understand except and except on a routine basis. I’m sure you can decipher the difference is yourself. In short, the voice recognition falls short of my expectations and each new iOS upgrade does not improve it.

I wish I could turn off the duplication feature that seems to activate When I end a sentence with a period, the period does not show up so I repeat it and of course the entire paragraph is repeated. Sometimes I’m not looking while I’m dictating and the editing becomes a real chore. In short, I think the voice recognition is very useful but there may be some issue with noise cancellation that makes it Less than perfect. Any kind of pause seems to turn it off very quickly and then I get the double ladder issue as you see above in the it less than perfect statement. Oh well, one must adapt. I was hoping Apple would expedite that adaptation.
