My HomePod keeps asking me for Apple ID password

Almost daily, my HomePod keeps asking me to sign into my Apple ID account. I've tried changing my Apple ID password and resetting the HomePod. I have 2 home pods and it happens on both.

You might also try signing out of your Apple ID and back in on the iOS device you set it up with

Go to Settings > [your name] > View Apple ID - sign out, then sign back in

if you're using Apple Music:

Turn on iCloud Music Library with Apple Music

Happens around twice a day here. Problem suddenly appeared about a week ago. Removed HomePod from iCloud, reset, logged back in - problem persists.

Seems software related. When asked to re-enter password, going into HomePod settings (Home App), there is "Sign In" right on top, but tapping it yields no results (bug?). Need to go to further down into Account, log out and log back in.

Very annoying issue, hope for Apple to fix it soon!

Yup, unpaired them. Removed them individually from Home.app. Unplugged them after they reset. Configured one at a time with the Home.app.

The HomePods are 6.5' away from each other--one on either side of my desk. I can touch both of them at the same time, arms spread, with my fingertips.

I will probably reset them again today to see if it works. As a last resort, I feel I am going to have to delete my Home and rebuild all of the rooms and various devices. That's going to take a while, and if it doesn't work, I may be frustrated enough to throw them into a bonfire and post the video to YouTube.

When asking Siri on HomePod to play music, it’s saying something is wrong with my Apple Music Account and to check the Home app.

In the Home app the word Account (in Homepod tile) is highlighted in red. Going to settings, the password is gone and I have to sign in again. Works fine after that, but only for a few days.

I’m not sure but the issue began with the major Siri ‘crash’ a month ago.

Siri doesn’t work as well on HomePod as it does with our other IOS devices.

I’m running out of ideas on what to advise. When mine are acting up I unplug and/or turn things off then back on, you could try turning hey Siri off, then back on.

Oh .geez, I just noticed my music stopped. I blame all this on the internet cutting out!

Aside from being a nuisance I still love mine lol

I have account login requests randomly, Siri is probably the most unintelligent AI on the planet. I’d take Cortana over this junk. Open the HomePod up to Google Assistant or Alexa. At least I’ll get an intelligent reply and it will do what I ask it to.

From a good sounding speaker, yes it’s good. Strip Siri out of it and sell it for 150 less and you’ll have a good model. Apple just shouldn’t use the term “smart” and “speaker” together because it’s anything but. Just a nice sounding dumb speaker. With emphasis on dumb.

I think if if I had it to do over again, I’d have gone Sonos if hindsight is 20/20

I haven’t heard the Sonos to compare,

I read reviews before I bought HomePod and saw that Siri wasn’t good, so I knew this going in .

It does sound great. I have all App,e devices so I just wanted everything to run on one account,

it makes phone calls. I had a stroke a few years ago and fall a lot or get myself into dangerous situations and just my luck I’ve left my phone in another room.. it saved my life twice this month. Once to call my daughter and the other night I called 911 when my daughter wasn’t answering. It’s valuable for that (to me) and it would cost me $30 + to sign up for medic alert services. I was able to summon paramedics in minutes which the latter doesn’t do right away.

I could see the value add with this use case. But at the same time with how temperamental Siri is, I’d be Leary to trust it in a use case such as yours. That being said what you have is cost effective.

I think our use cases differ and my expectations stem from when Jobs ran Apple and quality was paramount. Right now even as I type this message the autocorrect keeps inserting the wrong words because it is trying to think, and this gets back to quality control. It’s the half life of iOS and each revision since Cook took over it’s gotten sloppier and sloppier. Like little kids do when they know no one is watching.

Same issue here. Seems worse lately. I have 5 HomePods, so you can imagine how frustrating it is to be denied access to my HomePods multiple times per day. It's supposed to make things easier and more "magical," or least less friction, and instead I am more frustrated with an Apple product than ever.

I called support and was told to disconnect the modem, router, and all the HomePods from power, and then power them on from modem, then router, then HomePods, which is a joke, but I'm so desperate that I did it anyway. No improvement whatsoever. What's more, the person said she'd send me her info so I could follow up, and she never did, so now I'd have to start over if I bothered to call, which would likely just be a waste of time. Hopefully it's widespread enough that Apple will figure out a fix in the Home app or the firmware of the HomePods (or both, though I suspect it's iOS). Maybe I'll do the public beta again, just on the chance that I don't have to go through this anymore come June. Ugh.

This company, man. It used to delight me, but now I feel like I'm putting up with it instead. At this rate I'm going to start feeling trapped and resentful (this coming from a former genius and current consultant).

I have the exact same problem. Have 5 homepods and every other day one of them is asking to sign in again and sometimes the sing in is not responsive to touch. Very annoying. They do not seem to remember the password for more than a few days. Hope Apple can correct this soon via firmware. By they way I had no problem for many months when I bought them, but this issue started about 1 month or so ago when I started my Apple Music 3-month trial. Do not know if that is related but it basically started the following day.
