AirPods discharging in empty Charging Case
Hi All,
I have an issue regarding my 2nd Gen AirPods and the battery draining from both while inside an empty charging case. There is no issue when the AirPods are at 100% charge and the battery case itself has a residual charge. The issue typically arises when the AirPods are low and need to be charged, or I am simply putting them away in my Charging Case after use. If the charge in the case is not enough to to bring the AirPods up to 100%, it will then draw the battery out of the AirPods, leaving me with both AirPods and the Charging Case at 0% if left overnight.
The Apple Store Genius informed me that this was not supposed to happen, and we have tried switching out my Charging Case for a new one to see if that resolved the issue. Unfortunately, it persists leaving the following two possibilities:
- One/both of the AirPods is/are faulty and causing the battery drain
- Everyone has this issue
From a UI standpoint (attached image), there is a lightning bolt indicator beside the AirPods which could suggest that either:
a) The AirPods are inside the Charging Case (Normal)
b) The AirPods are 'charging' inside the Charging Case (Suggesting a connection issue)
I have tried on numerous attempts:
a) A factory reset and repairing the device to my iPhone (holding down the button on the AirPods for ~15seconds)
b) Fully draining the AirPods and the Charging Case and fully charging them
Thank you in advance for your help & insights!
