password is not working to open macbook

I let my Macbook battery run down until it shutdown. On plug in and restart, it's asking for my Apple Id/Password, but not accepting password. Password works on other devices.

Have you tried logging in using your user name and user password instead of using your Apple ID?

I don't know that I've ever done anything but enter the password. All that I'm capable of doing right now is enter a password, or restart the computer.
