Photos metadata are not imported

I have imported photos and videos with all camera and lens metadata into iPhoto but then no metadata is available when I check them in iPhoto. It makes sorting photos by date impossible. Any suggestions?

Photos and iPhoto do not always show the lens or camera data. Sometimes the exif tags for the lens or the camera model are ambiguous and iPhoto cannot find the lens model based on the EXIF tag. If iPhoto does not recognize the camera model, sort your photos into folders by camera model, before you import them into iPhoto and import the photos for each camera model separately, so you can tag them with a keyword, directly after import.

Are you using iPhoto or Photos? You mention Photos in the title, but iPhoto in the body of the message?

Photos for Mac is showing the metadata only in the Info panel for a photo. Select the photo and open the Info with ⌘I.

Below the thumbnails you can only see the filename or the title, if a title is present, and only, if you enable this in the View menu. View > Metadata.

The video standard does not include the capture date as EXIF data. So Photos will ignore it, if it is present and use the file creation date instead.

I am using iPhoto in MacAir. I have imported photos and videos from an external storage and they all have camera and lens metadata (I have checked this by opening photos from external storage). However, after importing them to iPhoto, when I select any of them and check the information, it says no camera or lens information data is available.
