Logic Pro 9 with Mohave

I had a 2011 Macbook pro with Logic 9. I just bought a new Imac, that has mohave. It said I could download my purchased version of Logic, but when it downloaded and installed it said its not compatible with Mohave, and that I have to re-buy Log again? That seems ludicrous that I just bought a new machine, and now I have to re-buy software I already bought previously because the O/S won't work with Logic 9? Plus it doesn't seem like there is any discount for previous buyers (upgrade price). That seems like a shady game to play with your customers.

Does this sound correct?

Well, Logic originally was from a German company called Emagic which obviously needed sales of their product to survive. Emagic was bough out by Apple when Logic 6 came out. First thing Apple did was stop development of Logic for Windows.

Since then Logic is Mac-only, so whoever wants to use it will have to buy a Mac. When Apple realized this potential, they drastically lowered the price of the software until they reached Logic X for 200.- and no update fee since then. With all the sample content and the quality built in FX, the price is symbolic anyway.

Base line is, Logic exists first and foremost to sell Macs, and that is why it is dirt cheap.

I'm not sure I understand your second sentence, but a reliable and capable PC is in the price range of an equally qualified Mac. Also, let me assure you that AVID makes you pay through the nose for ProTools updates/-grades, precisely because their business model is completely different. They're selling the software to earn money, Apple is selling software to push boxes.

Now, as anyone can attest, I'll be the first to rub it in Apple's face when they mess up (not that they would particularly care though). But it is unrealistic to expect that audio software from 2009 that was discontinued in 2013 still runs on a 2019 computer.

As for a discount, the full price of Logic Pro X, it is *exactly* what you would have paid on a Logic 9.x update, so there's no reason to whine about it. Consider it a L9 update and you get all the features of Logic X for free.

And if it makes you feel better, I bought Logic multiple times over since I started in 1993 on Logic 1.7 when it cost a grand, and another grand on top if you wanted audio which came in L2.0, which needed an audio card that cost yet another grand on top and gave you a whopping four tracks of audio.

Make some music and sell it, that'll pay for your expenses and then some.

Or use Garageband which is free. And perfectly fine.
