Powerbeats Pro Connection problems

Hi

I have a problem automatically connecting one of the Powerbeats Pro headphones. Sometimes its left one sometimes its the right one. I have iPhone Xs Max so i open powebeats pro case remove left headphone put it on and nothing happens. I remove the right one and put it on and it connects but the left one doesn't. The only way to connect it remove it put it back into the case. Sometimes i need to put back both left and right back to the case and after that it connects. Sometimes i have the problem with the right one. I did a reset but still the problem exist. Anyone has the same problem? looks like its a firmware problem but not sure if there is an update for that.

I have this same problem, and I think I figured it out. The issue is that the earphone is intermittently not charging in the case. Here is how I figured t out. I read these comments and thought I should try and update my firmware. I went to the beats page to do that, but it wouldn't move past the page where it asks you to connect the case with both earphones inside. However I did have both earphones inside the case. This was the first clue.

I then started to suspect power, so I unplugged the case and opened my iPhone to the first page where the battery levels are displayed. I normally would see three battery levels: one for the case, one for the left earphone and one for the right earphone. However, I only saw two - the case and the right earphone.

My theory was that the reason I couldn't get the left to connect wasn't a connection issue per se, but instead it was the fact that the left earphone had 0% battery, and was dead. I tested this by carefully placing the left in the case and left it for 30 mn or so, and then checked the phone battery levels again. This time the left showed with 3% charge. I lifted it out of the case and placed it in my ear and it connected. It then gave a weird tone and shut down again, likely because the battery level was so low. I then left it for 8+ hours and when I came back, it showed on the iPhone at 100% battery and connected fine after that.

I have two use cases:

1) it won't connect initially, but when I put it back into the case and remove it again, it then connects fine. My theory for this use case is that it still has a charge, but when placed in the case the last time I used it, it didnt connect to the case and therefore "timed out" somehow or lost sync with the right earphone. This can be tested by taking both out and listening to them, then only place one back in and leave it that way for a while. When you come back I will bet that the one you left out of the case will not initially connect, but will connect when placed back into the case and removed again as that causes the earphone to sync up with the other one again.

2) It wont connect at all. In this use case, my theory is that the earphone did not connect to the case properly when it was last placed in there, and enough time has passed from the last time I used it that the battery has drained completely so it wont connect at all. Leaving it then in the case for "30 minutes" or so might give it enough charge to work again after that, as some posters in this thread have experienced.

I am having these replaced and hopefully that will clear it. I am not sure if it is a problem with the left earphone itself not connecting to the case for power, or if it is the case itself that has the connectivity issue. Hopefully replacing both will solve it. I certainly will be paying close attention to the battery meter in the iPhone to determine if I am getting a good earphone/case connection going forward...

had the exact same thing happen to me. nonstop connection issues, sent in to repairs TWICE and both times they deccided nothing was wrong with them after 20 minutes (took nine days for repairs to even receive the earphones). I was put in touch with a senior apple customer care person who ended up ghosting me (stopped returning my calls). when i went back to the store for the 8th or so time, the geniuses finally decided to replace them. they did that and i have new ones with fewer connection issues, but still not good. That's the best i could do. i think apple knows it's shipping lemons. Ghosting is now a customer care method at apple. keep arguing with them until they exchange them for you, you might get better ones. Also one person told me the reason they kept returning them anc claiming they were fine is because the problem was labeled as "continuous" as in right out of the box you'll have the problem as opposed to "intermittent" meaning you have to use them for a while to get the problem. this is my last apple product. currently looking to offload powerbeats and my new macbook pro as a result of this experience: paid 250 plus tax for earphones for a summer vacation, ended spending all my time with apple on the phone, doing nothing. they even asked me to start testing them on various devices to see if they should contact the engineers at apple about this. they wanted me to spend time testing their faulty product, on my time and on my dime.

Is NOT the Firmware, it’s definitely the case. The only way to fix it is by unlocking your phone and opening the Case near your phone.

This way the Case will show up on the phone and you will be able to see if the earphones are connected properly. If they are then they will pair normally. If one of them was lose while you were carrying the Case then it wont Pair to your phone once you get it out.

i use to just take them out of the case and keep walking. If one is not connecting properly then your case wont be able to communicate with the phone and you will lose connection.

Make sure that when you put the buds in the case, they’re making good contact with the case and that the case is tightly closed. Delete them from your phone or whatever. Then open the case and perform the reset by holding the system button down for about 15 seconds until the light alternately flashes white and red. Release the button and wait for the pop up to connect them.

I kept having only one connect and kept resetting with no luck until I performed the steps in the above order. I suspect that because the case was cracked a tiny bit open on one side, it was causing my problem. Good luck.

I have the same problem and figured it out that since it can connect to 2 devices only (In my case XS-Max and Iwatch) when I come close to my ipad, it is getting confused and disconnects from the phone.

I cannot turn the bluetooth off on my ipad as I use the apple pencil. And if I try to tell the ipad to forget this device, because of the icloud connectivity feature, it will dissconnect from all devices. and then when I connect my phone again, it connects to all devices and same issue!!!

I am having the same issue as well. I will be watching a movie or listening to audio and the Beats will play a quick tune, disconnect from the device (iPhone 8/iPad), and then deregister from the device. It completely disappears! My case will have a 90% charge, the earbuds will be at 90% charge. My iOS device will be within 3 feet of me so it isn't a distance problem. I typically have my Apple Watch and iPhone near me, and sometimes my iPad. I have only tried to pair the powerbeats to my iPhone and iPad. I did not try to pair the powerbeats with my Watch.

I have to put the powerbeats back in the charging clam shell, open the shell, hold down the pairing button in the clamshell, and tap on Connect on the iOS device. After I do this everything will work fine until the next episode. This happens 2-3 times a week. I purchased the powerbeats in the beginning of July.

I am on the phone with Apple right now as I type and they claim they have never heard of this issue and I can mail them in so they can "diagnose" them. Unless someone is going to wear my powerbeats for a week (or at least a few days) no issue is going to show up.

I had a similar problem for some time. Yesterday, however, my left earpiece refused to connect for good. I couldn't see it in the batteris widget so it seemed like it was totally dead. Resetting didn't help.

But I found a way to get it back to life. I swapped my left earpiece with my gf's, reset both cases so that they synced with those swapped pieces and it started working. So it looks like sometimes there's a problem in connectivity between an earpiece and the case itself.

And what's most weird is that when I return my old earpiece to my case and reset - it doesn't respond again.

The original thread topic was raised with regards connection issues, not charging issues. It’s since turned into reports of both scenarios. I think people are actually quite aware of both these two unique issues and I also raised this very same point earlier:

  • Sometimes one (or maybe both) ear pieces are not seeming to establish a bluetooth connection to the host device and you have to repeatedly return them to the case which appears to cause the connection to be retried (this was the original thread topic)
  • Second issue which has come along also is earpieces not charging and thus obviously not working because they are flat battery in the case or having unequal charge (again presumably some hardware issue or a poor mating connection between case and earpiece as it seems to impact one and not both ear pieces and usually the case is reporting free charge

I don’t think there is any confusion on other peoples part at all. Also there has been no response from Apple or a representative here so all you have are other people with issues - from what I have seen there is no solution here and doesn’t seem to be one forthcoming after many many months now. I certainly gave up all hope of some moderator or rep responding here and trying to help. Over 2000 people appear to have hit ‘I have this question too’. Maybe in the grand scheme of things based on units sold this is a very small failure rate, still it is large enough on ‘both’ issues to have warranted some response in my opinion.

For what it’s worth, I have since reporting my connection issues also along with OP - experienced the charging issue, although connection issue the most frequent failure in my case. I get in the habbit now of checking charging status when I put them away so I am not caught short when I need them.

I have this same issue also. Seemingly random I will remove the earphones from the clamshell, place them in my ears and sometimes the left bud (always the left for me) does not connect. I’ve also found the only way to resolve is to put them back in the case and close it for a little while.

I use mine a lot for calls connected to my iphone and only several occasions now people on the other end say I sound ‘robotic’ even though I can hear them fine. Sometimes repairing them in the case with the little button resolves it. Other times I had to just jump on the iPhone and not use the powerbeats. Has anyone had the robotic voice / microphone issue?

Hello,

I had the same issue with my PBP that I received at the beginning of July.  They last a month, and I had to bring them back to the apple store, beginning of August.  They gave me a brand new pair of PBP.  Since almost a month that I have the second pair, as soon as I open the lid, I can observe on my iPhone that it seems to start to have a problem connecting correctly.  I’m pretty sure I will have the same issue in a couple of weeks.  I made a lot of tests when I had the issue the first time, and I can assure that it is not a problem of charging them correctly.

I really hope that the problem is only with few pairs of PBR, because it is a very nice product.

I wrote to AppleInsider to ask them to investigate the problem, but had no answer from them ;-(

Anyway, I will keep you inform ;-)

Tried all the resets and updates etc and nothing.

Called apple support today and they said to cal in apple store get replacement or refund no problem.

To be fair once I had Apple chat support the serial number on the beats and they found out it was out of warranty the only solution they gave was purchase another one.

the issue is known to them but since I don’t have the actual original receipt they won’t replace or repair them.

it will cost me £102.95 for another left headset and they’ll give me another 3 months warranty on it. Explained to them what would happen if the issue arose again after 3 months and according to her i would need to pay for a refurbished replacement. They won’t offer a guarantee which makes me believe they are aware the issue at hand.

honetsky for the premium price tag on these headset they reallt are not worth the level of issues I’ve had with them. Currently I’ve gone back to my beats x which I’ve never had an issue with the.

might pay for a refurbished replacement sometime this week and just sell them off.

if you’ve got home insurance they’re should be covered for a repair or a replacement which should be £50 for the claim and the replacement would be sent to yourself in 48 hours.
