Outgoing mail problem

I recently updated my iMac to 10.14.5. Now I can't get an email to send. I've been on the phone with my provider (iPage.com) and have not been able to come up with a solution. They suggest that because the problem coincided with my update that it might be my Mac. Anyone else having any problems?
