Outgoing mail problem

I recently updated my iMac to 10.14.5. Now I can't get an email to send. I've been on the phone with my provider (iPage.com) and have not been able to come up with a solution. They suggest that because the problem coincided with my update that it might be my Mac. Anyone else having any problems?

could be your macs firewall block the port required by the mail providers smtp server
