My left Powerbeats Pro earpiece stopped taking charge

after a month's use, suddenly my left powerbeats pro earpiece stopped taking charge when kept for charging in the case, any solutions?

Hi folks. I don’t know if you’ve tried this, but I’ve FINALLY managed to get round the problem.

I’m using my 2nd pair of these earphones, due to me swapping my first pair that I thought had an issue. But it’s going to be the same on virtually EVERY pair of these headphones for ALL of us.

The design is terrible, and it’s all because the connection points are so small. What I do now after using them, is slide the main screen of my iPhone or iPad to the right to display the battery levels of all of my linked devices, and then open my Powerbeats Pro charging case. The case should be displayed on the screen and also show the headphones individually. As they are placed into the charging case, they should individually show a ‘bolt of lightning’ image next to each of them if they are charging. If not, then slowly and VERY carefully apply tiny movements to the individual headphone until it displays the ‘bolt of lightning’ image on the screen. Once both of them have that image, carefully close the lid, and be careful as you move the charging box around.

It’s a terrible design, but at least the headphones are great when I’m out running or in the gym.

***I hope I’m helping someone, because I’m finally happy now that I’ve figured out this terrible design error.***

VERY frustrating!!! I am having the same problem. My Powerbeats show 100% charged at times and one of them will be dead (after sitting in the case). Other times they should be charged and one totally discharged and shows 1 or 2%. If I fiddle with seating them - disconnect/re-connect etc. it will eventually charge and be usable. I love these when they work but it is 50/50 at this point. Seems the best bet is to call for replacement under warranty?

Thank you all for making me feel like I was not the only one with this challenge. Ex3Para - I have experimented with exactly the same approach you recommend. Just about the time I thought I had it figured out it stopped working for me. I am convinced that there is a firmware issue. I’ve had instances where they both showed 100% and the left didn’t work. I put them back in the case and the left shows 3%. Slam the earpiece a few times to establish a connection and show a charge symbol and it comes up at 100% - put it back on and it works! The whole mess is incredibly inconsistent. My frustration is that I love them when they work right.

!!! I too hope that Apple takes note, acknowledges the problem and offers a fix!!! I wonder if a firmware upgrade is possible.

On my first pair, the connection issue started after I removed the sticker inside the case (the sticker that says something like “keep earbuds in the case when pairing”). I figure the tolerances on the connection to those tiny contacts are *really* tight... so on the second and third pairs I didn’t remove the sticker (though the problem still eventually occurred).

Out of curiosity: have y’all removed your stickers?

(the super frustrating part here is that an extra 0.5 mm of contact area would likely solve this issue for all of us!)

Same issue here. The contacts for charging are very inconsistent in mating the earphones with the case. this causes two issues. They charge very inconsistently, sometimes the left sometimes the right, regardless of how carefully I attempt to insert them or whether I verify the contact with the app. I actually visited the store to discuss this, and despite having replacements in the store, they told me that I would have to send them in and be without a product for several days. i happened to be out of town at the time traveling for business, so I have been attempting to work with the problem since. From the sound of it I will need to contact apple care to get a replacement authorized. Really disappointing that these weren't tested more thoroughly for what seems to be a very fixable problem as it is with the Airpods. Apple please respond with the recommended course of action here!

For what it’s worth: after returning my third (!) pair of defective Powerbeats Pro, I splurged on the AirPods Pro. So far I’m finding them to be a bit more

comfortable than the Powerbeats (no weird ear wrapping thing), the active noise cancellation is decent (not phenomenal but: decent), and the sound quality is about as good as the Powerbeats were (to my ears). Given how this case connects and charges, I can’t imagine them having the same issues as Powerbeats.

Ymmv of course, but for those with this nuclear option available to them: might be worth considering the swap.

The situation is worse than just not charging. It seems the case can actually discharge an ear pod. I've put them into the case with over 80% charge on both ear pods. The next day one will be fully charged and the other is empty. I suspect a salt bridge between the two electrodes but have not been able to prove this. This is a big fat pain.

Same boat as other folk. Mine have been back to Apple for “repair” once and going back again today as same issues occurring. Had an online chat with Apple support and suggested that it was a widespread problem and they said no. Left and right sometimes not charging and also connection of case with phone sometimes an issue. I need to know these are charging if I put them in case in my backpack for an hour or so during an ultra run as this is why I bought them as I don’t want wires flapping about. I suggested in my conversation with Apple about a refund and was told no as outside the 14 day return period. Fingers crossed they at least replace the whole set this time.

I have the same issue with the left unit not charging. I have to make sure the unit is charging in the case by checking on my phone using the battery widget! I can charge the unit to 100% then the next day it is down to 0% when the case is moved in my bag. it obviously moves in the case and this causes it to discharge. I took into Apple and they were returned a few days later with no explanation as to the issue - and the same issues persist. I also have the issue where the unit status does not show on my phone - well randomly it does

Apple this is a design flaw, it's obvious. Own up to it and either replace the units or refund the cash.

First time I have bought an Apple product and felt like I have been ripped off. Do not buy these units.

The product design is defective. I bought mine in late November. I faced the exact issue identified in this forum - left earpiece not charging. I discussed with Apple support, took it to the store and I am not sure but it looks like they replaced the left earpiece.

Since I received the replacement (~10 days back), the right one doesn't charge when in the base. Or when I leave it and it says the earpieces are 100% charged, the right dips to 0% or 30% or red warning sign within minutes.

The only way I can charge is one at a time and with the base open.

This is aggravating for a premium product.

Same Problems here with first pair of Powerbeats Pro. I sent them to Apple and was told they'd send me a replacement. After a few weeks, I got a message from Apple saying there was 'water damage' and that the fix would be a full $250- the price of a new pair!

I called Apple and had to talk to 5 different operators as I worked my way up the chain. Finally got to the last manager who told me there was 'water damage' and therefore voids any Apple warranties. She basically told me to F--- off.

I am now starting to get the exact same problems with a second pair of Powerbeats Pros, sadly, that I had previously bought for my wife.

Water Damage seems like a convenient excuse for voiding my warranty on this product. A) I treat all my electronics very carefully, and therefore I know that there I have in no way got enough moisture on the device to create 'water damage'.

B) I use them for exercising, but I don't sweat any more than a normal person under ordinary exercise conditions.

C) Furthermore, the problems began on the first uses of the product. In other words, they were brand new, I had barely even used them and I was experiencing connection problems and charging problems. So this 'water damage' obviously isn't what caused the problems because I had problems with them right from the beginning.

D) if there really is 'water damage' then this is definitely a flawed product and an absolute shameful embarrassment to the Apple brand.

Apple Customer service is very sad. The final manager I spoke to was extremely rude and unhelpful essentially saying that I damaged them and therefore the warranty would be voided and that was final.

This will be the last Apple product I purchase. No doubt.
