If we are going to post/list our favorite calculator apps, I like these.

None of mine are free, though.

Digits https://apps.apple.com/us/app/maxicalc-pro-big-retro-lcd-paper-tape-calculator/id622309324

I have had Digits Calculator on my iPads since the first 2010 iPad and iOS 5.1.1.

Love Digits calculator.

Calc Pro HD – iPad Calculator by Panoramic Software Inc.

This one covers a lot of conversion stuff, as well as standard calculator functions.

I get a lot of use out of this one, too.

I tend to like calculator apps that use the calculator tape roll analogy.

AND, just to have and use for both fun and nostalgia and to get a rise out of friends and family.

This is a very good modern re-creation of the old-school loudest and noisy-est electric tape roll adding machines from the 1970’s, with all of the modern calculator functions built into this calculator app!

Chunky, clack-y huge number push buttons, and all!

I JUST LOVE IT! And it looks great on my 12.9 inch iPad Pro!

To the Original Poster,

There are a WHOLE LOTTA third party calculator apps designed for iPad.

Lots of great-looking calculator apps for iPad.

Some even mimic classic pocket calculators from the 1960’s, ‘70’s, ‘80’s and ‘90’s!.

Have fun finding a calculator app you like!

HI, xi1008,

I think the key word in your question on calculator access may be ‘quick’. While it’s not in the Control Panel, did you know you can quickly access Apple’s Calculator with a Widget?

Here’s both written and video instructions:

Use widgets: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207122

Video: https://youtu.be/fGqRv0kSHq0

Soon, with iOS13, when the widgets will be right on your home screen, they’ll be even more accessible...

Hope this is helpful!

I know very well how widgets work!

There is simply NO iOS native calculator widget for iPad as there is no calculator app.

The calculator widget she is using is a widget from a third party calculator app called The Calculator.

That app is either this one.

MichelPM,

I don’t know what you saw in my screenshot that would have you think I’m using iPadOS beta. I’d never even heard of that, except to read on this forum that it’s not discussed here.

Besides providing a screenshot of my open Widgets, I provided two Apple Support instructions on using them. Do you view them? Do you think I’d offer information to share to questioners with which I’ve had no personal experience?

I’ve always had the Calculator available on all of my iPads. While it’s new to me to use Widgets, that fact is nothing new, as I didn’t known how to use the Control Center, either, ‘till a recent class. But the calculator has always been available...

I’m using the ‘18 iPadPro, iOS 12.3.1, and that same calculator has always been available on my previous iPads, also.

MichelPM,

That’s not a mouse cursor circle showing. That’s my Zoom indicator.

For some reason, while I have two indicators — Zoom and Accessibility for Screenshots — when I take screenshots, one will stay invisible in those, while the Zoom indicator always displays.

Zoom is incredibly handy to have at a moment’s notice for small print or close-up in images.

I don’t want to further the flames here, but the Calculator app is NOT preinstalled on the iPad. There has never been a built in Calculator app on the iPad. Yes, there is a widget for that app on the iPad once you download the app, but it IS a third party app.

This is a screenshot of the built in apps on the iPad Pro.

There has never been any native calculator or weather app for iPads, ever!

There is NO fix or remedy.

Lots of great third party calculator and weather apps for many years for iPads.

Do a search in the iOS App Store and pick one and install it.

Here is a link to why an iOS calculator app never shipped or became available from Apple for iPad.

It is, probably, the same reason for no native iPad/iOS weather app.

Looks like you are running the iPadOS beta.

No, I have the Widget on my iPad Air 2 running iOS 12.3.1.

re you sure that calculator widget was part of/available in iOS 11/12?

It is a third party app.

hat widget looks like a widget for a third party calculator app called The Calculator.
It isn't a native iOS calculator widget for iPad.

Correct. It is. I have that calculator app and have had it for years. You know there is no native calculator app on an iPad and there never has been one.

We cannot discuss beta software here, either.

It’s not beta software.

Jul 10, 2019 5:49 AM in response to ilovedaisies

There is a large circle with navigation arrows in your screenshot.

That looks exactly like the mouse cursor in the iPadOS beta.

That is why I thought you were running the iPadOS beta.

And tbat calculator app is a third party one from the App Store ( your version of that third party calculator app has ads in it )

There has never been any native calculator app for iPad, ever.

So, there would be no native calculator widget.

The calculator widget you are using is courtesy of the third party calculator app you are using.

Without a native calculator app for iPad, there is no accompanying calculator widget.

And not all third party calculator apps have a widget.

My third party calculators I use come with NO widget versions.

Dear MichelPM,

I don’t understand. Perhaps you’re familiar with beta’s navigation arrow, but are you familiar with Apple’s Zoom control?

While it seems you want to insist what works isn’t so and that this is a 3rd party app, all I know is I go under Widgets, and Apple offers the Calculator. All I need to do is select the green dot, and it’s there for me. Simple as that. Should I slide it to the top — using the 3 bars — it’s readily available at the very top of my screen, once I do a slide right to access Widgets.

Whether this is a third party or not, it’s the very same Calculator that Apple’s provided me, as a standard App, on every iPad I’ve ever purchased. It’s always provided. I’ve never dowloaded it.

I’m afraid this really isn’t the time to negotiate whether it’s a native app or not. Do you think? xi1008 simply asked if there was a remedy for the (same) calculator not being available in the control panel. Apple makes it readily available as a Widget.

Fine? MichelPM, I hope this has been a discussion, and not an argument. I feel my response to xi1008 was needlessly challenged, and I’ve done my best to respond kindly to all your postings.

Additionally, this might offer an explanation: I’ve had that same calculator available on every iPad I’ve had... Perhaps that means, because it’s there and has always been there — as I’ve recovered my iOS system and downloaded apps with every hardware upgrade — that’s why it shows up as an available Widget? After all, some personally downloaded apps will show up as available Widgets, while others will not.

What matters is The Calculator is available as a Widget, and have we responded to xi1008 with a ‘quick’ remedy? Wouldn’t you agree?

Jul 10, 2019 6:26 AM in response to Demo

Hi, Demo. Thank you. Flaming is against Apple’s rules, isn’t it? But, now that you’ve said the word, I must admit I do feel flamed...

I’m a newbie, as is evidently apparent. And I’m on my umpteenth iPad. I couldn’t tell you how long I’ve had them. All I know is I’ve had this Calculator app for forever. My apologies to all if it’s something I downloaded years and years ago, and thought it was native. What do I know. All I know is that, when I used Widgets for the first time, it was there! I had easy access to my calculator — which is what I tried to share with xi1008...

I’m afraid I don’t understand an argument over whether it’s native or not. It seems to change the focus. Is there a need to be right? The question was was there a quick remedy to accessing the (or a) calculator, and I tried to be helpful saying I had ‘quick’ access my calculator all the time, via Widgets.

Perhaps all the other third-party calculator apps offered in the first part of the discussion by MichelPM and bobseufert would also work as Widgets, too. However, I didn’t see anything for xi1008 in those discussions that offered utilizing a Widget.

It appears I owe an apology to all for my negligence in remembering that I may have personally downloaded that Calculator eons ago which allowed me access to it via Widgets? It seems my main point of utilizing a Widget has gotten lost via the challenge over whether I was using beta or whether it’s a third party app or not.

A kinder response — I believe — would have been an addition or correction that xi1008 would need to download that — or another — calculator app, first, in order for it to be accessible as a Widget.

Thanks to all.

Linda

Geez, I did not mean to offend you. I have seen a bunch of your posts here and I think you are doing a great job of helping. I was just trying to clear things up a little bit, not trying to rub your nose in it. If I wronged you, I apologize.

I didn’t mean to take the discussion OT either, but I did, My apologies to the OP and to you as well.

And by the way, I was reinforcing what you were saying about a widget being available for that calculator app.
