Airpods Always Disconnecting on All Devices

I have my 1st gen airpods about more than 1 year ago and have been using it on my iPhone X, iPad Mini and HP laptop with no issues. Just recently, my airpods always disconnects to these devices after about 1 minutes listening to music. Reconnecting it, only the left unit is functioning and disconnects again after a minute. I have tried resettting it and it works properly for about a minute and the same issue occurs. Tried other suggestions like closing other bluetooth connections of other devices, disabling automatic ear detection, etc but I still encounter the same issue. Note that the batteries are more than 95% charged. The same issue happens to my iPhone X, iPad mini and HP Spectre laptop. Note that the airpod firmware is 6.7.8. Has anybody experiencing the same issue? It's frustrating as I cannot use my airpods. Any suggestions? How can I downgrade the firmware? Hoping for a solution to this. Thank you.

Tried rebooting my iPhone and again restored to factory settings my airpods. Now after now 1 minute of listening to music, the left airpod disconnects and right is still working. Tried to put back the disconnected pod on the charging case and after 3 seconds I put it back on my ear and the connection is restored. After again 1 minute or so, the same left pod is disconnected again. The right airpod is always working on all this testing.

What could be defective on my left ipod? Thanks.

Depressing read!

I haven't used my Airpod 1 for a couple of years (I have Pros that I normally use), and now encountered this problem when I picked them out of the drawer to use as Teams headphones.

Unfortunately I have tried everything suggested in the thread before I found the thread.

Now I realized I have wasted time on something Apple will not solve!

I will call Apple support tomorrow. I hope they have some type of help for me as I own most of their products.

/M

Update!!

Guys, good news at least for me. So, after trying everything regarding to software troubleshooting, I turned off ear detection and started playing with airpods inside the case, to my surprise, while inside the case they never disconnected but continued drawing power constantly from it. So in a desperate last attempt I order a couple of OEM batteries from ebay that were about $13 the pair, proceeded to a random reapir shop that know mostly how to repair apple products, they told me they´ve never done that service before, but with they´re knowledge ended up agreeing to do the labor to replace the batteries, cause I don´t have the tools, they charged me around $17. In the end I got my airpods working againg by changing the batteries. Plese note my explanation on how I figured it was the batteries on the 2nd sentence. Lucky me I gess, but many have tried this and didn´t work because it was a firmware issue...

I too figured out that it was actually the batteries being worn out that caused the problem. Apparently just letting the pods be and not using them also wears the batteries.

It seems like the described behavior is common when batteries die.

I figured it out by looking at battery level while not playing anything. It dropped rapidly from full to nearly empty while just sitting quietly in my ears.

Also contacted Apple and they offered no help… :(

Hi Thanks for the updates ! I'have also found a solution by replacing one ear (bought from a store around 25$) and everything worked fine. The guy from the store told me that the problem is very common and that he has a huge stock of airpods ears with same problem (seems like the battery life is around 2-3 years).

Just bought a Huawei Freebuds Pro to test them :)

Same thing, right airpod disconnects in 30 seconds and then after putting them back in the case and using again plays for 30 secs and disconnects again. Battery 100% on both the pods. Case at 100% too. This is crap. Apple should be sued for deliberately malfunctioning their old products through a software update. An investigation into the matter in needed. This is illegal

Same here. I can't believe apple does not even acknowledge the issue and provide solution after TWO YEARS! with thousands of users posting here.

Instead of tossing my old airpods 1 with exactly same left ear disconnecting issue and wasting another $100+ for a new pair as Apple wished.

Here are what I did lately.

1) Placed an order for a 1:1 replica airpods 2 with wireless charging case at $40 after tax. I know it won't be as good as authentic airpods. But the online reviews say it is 90% as good. Well, you may ask why I did not buy another brand, but rather a replica. Apple ! you get my point here?

2) Also, I and also two fiends of mine skipped iphone 13 pro. I spent $80 in total on three 3rd party batteries and replaced my mine and two other friends' 3-4 years old iphone X. I convinced them to use their old iphone X as long as I can fix them for free.

Thanks Apple for helping us make our decisions.

Exactly the same issue with just one of them... disconnects in less than 30 seconds everytime. It is really frustrating.

I don't know if it is just me but it is hard to believe it is an issue of the battery of just one of them as the other one is working fine and both of them always were charged and "discharged" exactly the same, I used both always together.

Definitely it is quite frustrating for a device as costly as this one. I would never buy AirPods again and never recommend them to anyone.

I have two AirPods, first generation with FW 6.8.8, two iPads, one iPhone SE, Apple SE Watch, and a Mac, all with the latest software load. Both AirPods do exactly the same thing, after less than one minute of use, the right ear disconnects. I can reconnect with the left pod and if I put the right back in the case, it will work for almost exactly 1 minute. I can put the right pod in the case for less than 20 seconds and it will connect for about 1 minute. Apple store has checked the AirPods and determined to be in good working order. FW must be the problem! Apple, please fix this problem….this is $300 of your product.

Apple would recommend this solution which is useless and doesn't fix the problem at all. All I read is complaints and the same solutions offered which don't work. Apple has thrown away our money so they can sell us the newer version(s) and then make them obsolete ad infinitum. I guess the business model is working for them ...
