Airpods Always Disconnecting on All Devices

I have my 1st gen airpods about more than 1 year ago and have been using it on my iPhone X, iPad Mini and HP laptop with no issues. Just recently, my airpods always disconnects to these devices after about 1 minutes listening to music. Reconnecting it, only the left unit is functioning and disconnects again after a minute. I have tried resettting it and it works properly for about a minute and the same issue occurs. Tried other suggestions like closing other bluetooth connections of other devices, disabling automatic ear detection, etc but I still encounter the same issue. Note that the batteries are more than 95% charged. The same issue happens to my iPhone X, iPad mini and HP Spectre laptop. Note that the airpod firmware is 6.7.8. Has anybody experiencing the same issue? It's frustrating as I cannot use my airpods. Any suggestions? How can I downgrade the firmware? Hoping for a solution to this. Thank you.

You cannot downgrade the firmware. But you can try resetting it to its factory settings by:

  1. Going into Bluetooth settings on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, and forget the device.
  2. Place both of your AirPods in its charging case and leave the case lid open.
  3. Press an hold the button(located at the back of the charging case) for at least 15 seconds. You’ll start seeing the LED indicator flash white.
  4. After 15 seconds, you’ll see the LED indicator flash Amber a couple of times.
  5. After that, you have reset your AirPods to factory settings and you may let go of the button.
  6. Try pairing your airpods to your phone and hopefully this fixes your issue!

If this does not fix the issue, try rebooting your devices and see if that helps. If not, I would take it to the Apple Store and get it checked out. Good luck!

Another brick in the wall. AirPods disconnect after 30 seconds of music, after 5 seconds only left returns to life and after another 30 seconds disconnect again. This is so infuriating that Apple silently ignores a problem that’s being shout out EVERYWHERE about any of their products.

How was that class action suit going!? I live in Brazil, would I be able to opt in?

does work for you ? i am replayng all and after 1 hour nothing happens... how can i check singual airpod firmware ? It can be possible this error because of when listening music disconnect a singular airpod and then the other one... so i think is correct that every airpod aren't simultanuisly connected due to this different firmware. The work not egual. Anyone tried to connect the case with airpods to itunes ?

Hi Team,

kindly suggest a solution to this thread there were around 250 plus people who have been reporting the same problem and am being one of them. Kindly try to address at least whats the problem exactly is. My AirPods was working just so fine until few day back after firmware update. Left gets disconnected without any proper notification for low battery. When i put it in the charging case left show 100% battery. Must be definitely software issue. Kindly rectify it ASAP. Don't break our trust on you ...

Same problem! I thought my air pods were broken, but everybody has the same situation here. For me it also started around the summer holidays last year. Yesterday I ordered Air Pods Pro, and only today I came across this thread and I am shocked. I don't know whether to cancel my order because my current air pods seems to be damaged by software upgrade... Disconnecting all the time so it's unusable. I'm worried if similar actions will work with Air Pods Pro.

Apple, seems like are deliberately doing this to the earlier Airpods. They airpods were working fine without the upgrade and now the thing stays on sometimes for a minute, and sometimes for 20 minutes. Absolutely not usable. The batteries are fine. Would be a shame to have to throw them away just because you want us to buy new ones.

With Steve gone, no one gives a **** about customers at apple anymore. They’re not the same they used to be back in the days. If anyone finds a solution for this kindly share it with everyone here.

FYI: This issue exists with First Gen Earpods paired with an Android phone as well.

Shame on the ‘Firmware Quality Assurance Testing’ team at Apple!! 👎🏻

For me this issue changed my mind. I have started telling everybody who was thinking to buy the AirPods, not to do so. It’s a pity but I can’t trust this brand.

this reminds me all the iPhones that suddenly reboot by them own, crushed, the macs that you shouldn’t update because they stop working etc etc. now I’m almost sure that it’s planned obsolescence.

im really sad as I’ll have the doubt in my mind and from now on I’ll have a deeper look in the competitor offers.

welcome to your early 90s back @apple.
