Airpods Always Disconnecting on All Devices

I have my 1st gen airpods about more than 1 year ago and have been using it on my iPhone X, iPad Mini and HP laptop with no issues. Just recently, my airpods always disconnects to these devices after about 1 minutes listening to music. Reconnecting it, only the left unit is functioning and disconnects again after a minute. I have tried resettting it and it works properly for about a minute and the same issue occurs. Tried other suggestions like closing other bluetooth connections of other devices, disabling automatic ear detection, etc but I still encounter the same issue. Note that the batteries are more than 95% charged. The same issue happens to my iPhone X, iPad mini and HP Spectre laptop. Note that the airpod firmware is 6.7.8. Has anybody experiencing the same issue? It's frustrating as I cannot use my airpods. Any suggestions? How can I downgrade the firmware? Hoping for a solution to this. Thank you.

You cannot downgrade the firmware. But you can try resetting it to its factory settings by:

  1. Going into Bluetooth settings on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, and forget the device.
  2. Place both of your AirPods in its charging case and leave the case lid open.
  3. Press an hold the button(located at the back of the charging case) for at least 15 seconds. You’ll start seeing the LED indicator flash white.
  4. After 15 seconds, you’ll see the LED indicator flash Amber a couple of times.
  5. After that, you have reset your AirPods to factory settings and you may let go of the button.
  6. Try pairing your airpods to your phone and hopefully this fixes your issue!

If this does not fix the issue, try rebooting your devices and see if that helps. If not, I would take it to the Apple Store and get it checked out. Good luck!

Agreed, I have already dropped the Macbook Pro, just couldn't take the amount of stupid and irritating bugs that are now present in the OS. I switched back to Windows and it took me 2 weeks to re-adjust but its now well worth it.

I threw my Air pods in the bin yesterday and won't be investing my money in any of the newer models.

I'm also happy with my Samsung Note 10, While the interface of the iOS is nice and everthing, the Playstore is a joke, iTunes ***** for back ups and the boring user interface now just *****.

See ya Apple.

Was a solution ever posted for this or are we expected to buy the latest AirPods? I love my AirPods but I hate the short battery life even when wearing one at a time. I’ve reset etc etc but it’s gotten worse. AirPods have a life span I’m thinking, but the battery on them is saying 90% when they shut off. Sigh. I’m ready to throw them against the wall.

i have 1st Generation Apple Airpods - they are disconnecting more than frequently - i checked several articles for Firmware version update - but its not happening. I have done numerous times pairing & unpairing the result is same, Battery is absolutely fine both on earphone & case they are both showing 98% ~ 100% charged, believe me i have done everything that number of articles related available on the internet for re-booting/ repairing and trying to fix problem of continuous Bluetooth connection terminating Between my Iphone & Airpods and have come to an conclusion........Apple is cheating customers by not providing Update for 1st generation Airpods. My airpods have Firmware version 6.8.8....This is frustrating as i have shelved these AIRPODS & now forced to use Wired Headfones !! i will surely not buy anymore apple Airpods or its product as this is corporate cheating but people be aware........Apple is forcing customers to buy NEW AIRPOD PRO and does not want to provide software versions for 1st generation. If Apple yr intentions are clear than help fix my problem & re-build faith in your product so that we can depend on the Brand.......otherwise there is No difference between other Brands available in the Market VS Apple ? pls give a thot and respond. Thank You

APPLE SUPPORT, ARE YOU STILL HERE?

I went to Apple Support for the same issue last week. Your support did not help. You upgraded my airpod firmware without my authorization and now I requested to downgrade the firmware, but your support said no method. What's stuck for your company?

Was I agree to do any firmware upgrade automatically when I brought your airpod?

I REQUEST to DOWNGRADE the firmware and don't touch my airpod. It was brought from my money!!!

Sorry Danny. I think Apple knows this issue but it does not want to solve it. I go to Apple support already but the replied answer is not helpful/support.

  1. It cannot help to check what is the problem of aipod.
  2. It says it has not receive such report/complain.
  3. It will not care what the customers say on the forum or internet. It will only care what Apple say but we know NOTHING.
  4. It will not return my airpod to let Apple to check although I agree to pay money.
  5. It cannot help to downgrade the firmware although I have not agree to do the upgrade for all of time.

My AirPods had the exact same problem. Suddenly stopped working a few seconds after use. This issue began shortly after my warranty expired, and around the same time AirPods Pro went on sale.

I tried everything including several factory resets. Nothing. So I was forced to buy AirPods Pro.

Now I want to give my original AirPods to a friend, but they still fail after a few seconds. I just enrolled my phone for Public Beta for 14.2 because it has a new limiting charging feature for the original AirPods. But that didn't fix the issue.

Upset that my original AirPods stopped working at the time AirPods Pro went on sale. I don't want to cry conspiracy theory, but this does appear to be a widespread problem. Suspicious and frustrating.
