Airpods Always Disconnecting on All Devices

I have my 1st gen airpods about more than 1 year ago and have been using it on my iPhone X, iPad Mini and HP laptop with no issues. Just recently, my airpods always disconnects to these devices after about 1 minutes listening to music. Reconnecting it, only the left unit is functioning and disconnects again after a minute. I have tried resettting it and it works properly for about a minute and the same issue occurs. Tried other suggestions like closing other bluetooth connections of other devices, disabling automatic ear detection, etc but I still encounter the same issue. Note that the batteries are more than 95% charged. The same issue happens to my iPhone X, iPad mini and HP Spectre laptop. Note that the airpod firmware is 6.7.8. Has anybody experiencing the same issue? It's frustrating as I cannot use my airpods. Any suggestions? How can I downgrade the firmware? Hoping for a solution to this. Thank you.

You cannot downgrade the firmware. But you can try resetting it to its factory settings by:

  1. Going into Bluetooth settings on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, and forget the device.
  2. Place both of your AirPods in its charging case and leave the case lid open.
  3. Press an hold the button(located at the back of the charging case) for at least 15 seconds. You’ll start seeing the LED indicator flash white.
  4. After 15 seconds, you’ll see the LED indicator flash Amber a couple of times.
  5. After that, you have reset your AirPods to factory settings and you may let go of the button.
  6. Try pairing your airpods to your phone and hopefully this fixes your issue!

If this does not fix the issue, try rebooting your devices and see if that helps. If not, I would take it to the Apple Store and get it checked out. Good luck!

Have tried anything from pairing it with moms iphone 6s.. still facing the same problem.. keep disconnecting and when I thought to pass it to a friend who use non apple devices... the problem remains the same.. disconnect less than 1 min

So.. I guess thats it for airpod .. so I have bought Jabra elite to replace it rather than buying airpod pro and later on facing the same issues .. end up becomes airpod collector (museum)

How is is that everyone is having issues with there AirPod 1st gen and apple doesn’t do anything about it !? Is this a business tactic to make people buy there new stuff after you are fed up of trying to fix your 1st gen?! (remember iPhone 6 battery drainage scandal) This is disgusting apple needs to listen to there costumers ,,we paid for our product and it was working perfect until the new updates this is not fair...I can only use my AirPods for 40sec then it disconnects and I can not reconnect ,,my AirPods were fine what happened ,,we need answer!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with you ,I called them today and they told me we will troubleshoot and once it failed many times ,,the lady offered replacement ,,I was like that’s great what a great costumer service,,,, only to find out that I needed to pay $140 after providing the shipping address 🙃 ,,,I was boiling !! worst costumer service did not expect this from apple no resolution I have a $150 piece of white plastic siting on my desk as a Dećor.

Exactly the same problem here too. Must be a software problem, or a design fault, otherwise we wouldn't all be having it. Apple should fix this.

They stay connected all the time if you don't play music, but the right one always disconnects after a few minutes of playing.

Tried Apple Support, and as other have said, the same old buy a new one for £70 option.

Just putting the AirPod in the case for literally one second and removing it gets it started and connected again, so clearly this is fixable. It is a bug and yet we're being told to throw away perfectly good kit. That's really not environmentally friendly.

Apple, you need to get your act together and sort this out for customers for free.

Have bought Apple for ~30 years, but this kind of nonsense is really getting in the way. Come on, you're better than this Apple. Or at least you used to be.

Same with mine, I have tried all solutions proposed, disconnecting, left ear only right ear only, take out of my ear put back in again, works for a few minutes and then disconnects again. At the moment I have left ear only !! Absolutely ridiculous. I have 3rd party earpods as well which while the quality of the sound is not as good at least they don't just switch off after 3 minutes or less. @apple #appleairpods fix this issue please !!!!
