File names from iPhone to Mac

When transferring images from iPhone to Mac, the file names usually are "IMG_0001" etc.

Lately some of my files have more complicated names, like for example "0F3E502D-0402-4392-B447-E1C18BED66DE".

This usually happens with pictures or movies saved from Snapchat or other programs like iMessage. Is there any way to change this so that the file names are more normal (like "IMG_0001")? Mainly I would prefer it if the file names allow me to organize the files in a better way.

Thanks!

Hi there Elinebro,

When an application saves an image, it choses it's own file name format which is however the developer decides to code their App, and normal images taken via the camera app do use the "IMG_XXXX" format, unfortunately, you can't change how the third party applications name their files.

The only way to do this would be to:

  • Hand change the file names according to the system you prefer.

  • Or by using a third party batch renaming application or program on your Mac.

Hope this helps. : )
