Spam filter for native Apple iPad or iPhone mail app?

My parents refuse to move from their Cincinnati Bell email address which has terrible spam filtering, so they are getting a lot of spam in their inbox using the native mail app on their iPad. Are there settings that can be changed on the iPad or a 3rd party app that can be installed to provide spam filtering within the native Apple mail app? Is there a different iPad mail app that will provide client-side spam filtering (apparently they use Outlook on their windows laptop and it appears to provide client-side spam filtering)? I've already tried linking their account to gmail (via Gmailify function) to get gmail's spam filtering function but their provider - Cincinnati Bell (fuse.net) - doesn't qualify as a supported domain.

Thanks for any help.

iOS Mail has no built in spam filtering at all. It relies on server side filtering via the email account provider, so the only spam filters or server side rules would be whichever Bell offers online in their mail account configuration settings.

A couple of things they could try:

  1. setup the same email account on a MacOS or Windows computer that you leave on and connected all the time (MacOS can still check email even with the screen asleep and locked). Then set up rules or filters in the desktop mail client there. If Bell is IMAP mail, the computer can receive and apply its filters which should be reflected in the iOS mail app.
  2. Get a free Gmail account or use iCloud mail. Set the Bell account to forward all mail to the iCloud or Gmail account and use the server side settings for those accounts to filter your mail. They would have to read it then from the iCloud or Gmail account and to keep their sent from address as is, they’d have to use the Bell account to send from, so awkward if they don’t want their sent from address to change.
