Can iPad be repaired?

Hi,

My ipad pro 10.5 is stuck on the apple logo and I've done all the steps to turn it on as suggested on the site including hard reset, DFU reboot( update and recovery mode) etc. As suggested online it seems to be a hardware issue, but when I took it to the authorised reseller/repair centre, they tell me iPads can't be repaired and have to be replaced entirely because and I quote "no one can open them up". Is it true or am I correct in assuming this is a lie and a pathetic attempt to get me to replace my iPad for the full price?

This is mostly true.

Most Apple Store locations do not repair iPads. They replace.

This is because it would be just as expensive to repair, and a full replacement iPad is quicker to expedite for better customer service, than waiting a week, or more, to actually repair an iPad.

If you didn't purchase two-year, extended AppleCare+ for that iPad OR if your two-year extended warranty has expired, then you will be on the hook for an expensive, out of warranty replacement iPad that will cost 60% of that iPad Pro’s original cost.

At this point, for your iPad Pro, it is really too late.

Apple will not help you get a free or cheaper replacement since you never purchased the extended warranty.

Your options are now limited to purchasing another replacement iPad Pro of your same model, at a 40% discount, purchase a new iPad Pro for more cash, or purchase a discounted, refurbished iPad Pro model from Apple's Refurbished & Clearance section of the Apple Website.

If you purchase a new or refurbished iPad, you have up to 60 days to purchase the extended, two-year AppleCare+ plan.

If this is truly an actual Apple authorised product reseller/repair center, you can certainly let them know about your concerns via this link.

Since you had a 10.5 inch iPad Pro, if you want to purchase something similar that will be cheaper, you could look at the new 2019, 10.5 inch screen iPad Air 3 which uses the same 1st generation Apple Pencil and shares some of the same specs as the 2017, 10.5 inch screen iPad Pro for less cash.

iPad Air - Apple

The new 2019 iPad Air has some better internal specs than the two-year old, 2017 iPad Pro, like a faster CPU, slightly less internal RAM ( 3 GBs of RAM, instead of 4 GBs ), better spec'd front facing FaceTime camera ( but poorer spec rear facing camera ), only a two speaker audio system ( instead of the 4-speaker audio system found in the Pro iPad models ) and NO 120 Hz screen refresh rate.

And lesser storage size options for the 2019 iPad Air models.

Still much cheaper than the current iPad Pro models and maybe still cheaper than refurbished, two-year old, 10.5 inch screen iPad Pro models.

Best of Luck to You!

Thank you for the quick reply!

Alas! this is just bad news for me, although this seems like a terrible thing to put the customer through. :( My iPad is indeed out of warranty and I hadn't purchased the extended warranty unfortunately. The store I purchased it from, has been churning out a lot of faulty devices I've come to know recently. I wish there was a way to inform Apple about the issue.

Thank you for the reply and all the suggestions! I’m going to inform Apple about the reseller since they are a verified reseller I found through the Apple website. They have in fact been selling multiple faulty devices to unsuspecting customers. I will look into all the options available, thanks again!
