Can't erase bootable USB Mojave installer!

Recently I created a bootable Mojave installer on a USB 3.0 memory stick which I used to install Mojave on both my computers.


I now want to erase the memory stick but Disk Utility fails every time, reporting that it either cannot open or unmount the drive.


I have tried selecting "Apple UDIF" as shown in the screenshot and also "InstallESD"



I assume it is possible to erase it so where am I going wrong?

You are trying to erase the wrong thing. You need to select the "Kingston Data Traveler" and erase that.
