iPhone music library not updating?

My wife and I both have iPhones. We have an Apple Music family subscription and Family Sharing.

Before posting this, I confirmed the following:

  • Family Sharing is turned on in iTunes
  • iCloud Music Library is turned on in iTunes
  • We both have access to Apple Music (e.g. using the 'search' feature in the Music app)
  • I am using the same Apple ID on all devices and services.

But... when I open the Music app on my phone and select 'Library' it shows our entire iTunes library. When my wife does the same on her phone, it shows only the songs she has downloaded. Why doesn't she also have access to our iTunes library?

Any help would be hugely appreciated. Thanks.

You can listen to all the music in the entire Apple Music catalog, not limited to the library of your s.o.

If you also activate the purchase sharing option, then family group members can also access each other’s iTunes Store purchases, including music bought from the iTunes Store. But that is different/separate from music from the Apple Music subscription.

To share items in your library (that are also in the Apple Music catalog) with other subscribers, including Family Sharing group members, you can create and share one or more playlists.

To share unmatched items with other family members, they will have to add those tracks to their own iCloud Music Library through iTunes on a computer.
