I can't boot up the hardware test, it keeps booting to internet recovery

I can't boot up to the hardware test. When I start my MacBook Air 2012, I hold the "D" key and keeps holding, but it keeps booting to internet recovery.

Did you notice the "Learn More" section states:

  • "Some Mac computers that shipped with OS X Lion v10.7 or later will start up from AHT over the Internet if your startup disk doesn't contain AHT, or if you hold down Option-D at startup. This requires an Internet connection over Ethernet or Wi-Fi."

Have you tried that?
