ios 13 and itunes support

Does anyone what Apple plans to do regarding itunes and ios 13 support? Apple released today itunes 12.10.0.7 for Windows users which presumably has ios 13 support but there has been no update for mac users. I am running High Sierra 10.13.6

I remember last year Apple made it really complicated for Mac users because they installed ios 12 on their phones but itunes was not recognizing the phone when it was connected. Everyone had to figure out how to get things working again when Apple released a software update to get itunes to recognize ios 12. It was a big pain.

In Finder use the menu item Go > Go to Folder..., copy the following text, paste it into the dialog box and press enter:

/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework/Versions/Current/Resources

Unlock your device and connect it to USB. Double click on MobileDeviceUpdater in the folder that has opened. It should notify you of a software update. Install it and iTunes should hopefully recognize your device.

As earlier El Capitan and iTunes 12.8.2.3 are the minimum versions of OS X and iTunes that support devices running iOS 13. Windows users need Windows 7 or better and iTunes 12.10 or better. iTunes 12,6,5,3 can be used by those that really rely on app management support in iTunes. I don't believe it can actually manage an update to iOS 13, but that can be done over the air.

Reboot your router and computer and try again.

Here's what transpired for me.

A friend brought over MacBookPro running Mojave. They don't have iPhone right now.

We connected my iphone SE ios 13 and it immediately brought up a screen saying it needed to download an update (for the MacBook Pro). Very generic looking download dialog box, black/grayish. I've seen screenshots somewhere within these discussions. At one point it said it needed to close iTunes. We closed iTunes and unplugged the iPhone from the MBP.

We waited and it appeared to complete, but no real confirmation popped up.

We opened iTunes and nothing popped up.

We made sure iPhone was unlocked and we connected it.

It was Recognized by iTunes!!

We ejected the iPhone and closed iTunes.

I took my iPhone SE, iOS 13, over to my Mac running High Sierra.

I opened iTunes. I made sure iPhone was still unlocked. I plugged it in.

iTunes popped up the same message that the MBP popped up... That software needed an update before could access the iPhone. We did the same as we did on the MBP, closing iTunes when prompted, unplugging iPhone, reopening iTunes, reconnecting iPhone.

My Mac mini, High Sierra iTunes now recognizes my iPhone SE!

For info: Before the whole process, my Mac mini HS 10.13.6, was fully updated with all available Apple updates, was running iTunes 12.8.2.3. After it recognized my iPhone SE, iTunes still says 12.8.2.3

I still have another iPhone 6S Plus running iOS 12.4.1. It can be updated to iOS 13 and it shows notification for this.

I have not done it. It is my main phone. I am really scared and leery to try! OMG!

I'm wondering if the deleting and reinstalling of iTunes would work. It sort of sounds like it might.

I don't know if we just lucked out using my friends MBP!

I will post back after I get the courage to try with my main iPhone!!

Hope this helps someone....

Running High Sierra & iTunes 12.8.2.3 - I had the same problem, kept getting the message that a software update was needed. However the software download would seem to take forever and then come back with a message saying that it had failed... I tried 6 or 7 times to download the software, tried different USB ports, restarts of iPhone (with IOS 13 installed) etc but it still hung. I finally got it to work when I replaced the non-Apple made USB to Lightning cable with an actual Apple made USB to Lightning cable. Weird huh - but it worked! The download completed and I can now synch my IOS 13 iPhone with High Sierra/iTunes 12.8.2.3

Where have I suggested that anyone needs to upgrade to Catalina? My understanding has been that El Capitan and iTunes 12.8.2.3 have been the minimum versions of OS X and iTunes that support devices running iOS 13. Another thread today suggests that some users may even be able to use iOS 13 with Macs running Yosemite. The software patch that the steps I've given should trigger are a patch to iTunes to communicate with devices that it wasn't programmed for when it was originally released. For many years Apple's approach to new versions of iOS and new devices was a new build of iTunes. That changed with Mojave when iTunes was baked into the OS, and frozen for older versions of macOS/OS X. This patching method is the workaround. It should load automatically, but if it doesn't my steps should start it.

I’m running 12.8.2.3 Itunes on (MacOS High Sirerra 10.13.6) and this MobileDeviceUpdater fix worked for me. I would like to thank you for your help as nothing else worked including contacting apple support!!! I do not have app support in this version of itunes. I was advised to buy the Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter which did NOT allow me to initially connect to my older mid 2012-MacBook Pro until after I installed the MobileDeviceUpdater fix. However I am glad I bought the Adapter because I can now back up from my new iphone 11 pro to to my Samsung external T5 drive. Thank you to the hard working apple community for figuring this out for me I am sending you all virtual love!

peace.

Hmmm. I installed iOS 13 on an iPhone X and it completed. I then connected it to a Mac running Mojave v10.14.6. Photos recognized the iOS 13 iPhone. In iTunes, the iPhone did NOT initially show up. I disconnected it and a pop up showed up stating that additional software is required to be downloaded on the Mac. After the download and install, I reconnected the iPhone and magically, it showed up in iTunes. In iTunes it then executed a backup. It now appears to be sync'ing just fine.

Hi aegordon13.

It works with High Sierra!

I'm "stuck" with 10.13.6 myself, so i had reasonable doubts about updating my iPhone XS to iOS 13.

But it's the same process like DonnerRabe mentioned before. After connecting your updated iOS 13 Device, iTunes (12.8.2.3) asks you to download and install additional software. Do this, relaunch iTunes, and your iOS Device will show up and is ready to use with iTunes and Photos.

Hope this info helps.

regards, Dan

PS: i still have an archived backup of my 12.4.1 version and downloaded the .ipsw as well, just in case. but for now, everything works smooth.

To answer a couple of questions - Sierra and above are good with IOS 13 due to the iTunes update. Not syncing your older mac with iCloud is because there were changes made in iCloud to support IOS 13 which are not currently available to Mac software. Catalina will fix all of this. So, the bottom line is, from a tech support viewpoint, is if you cannot update your mac to Catalina when it is released don't expect your Reminders, notes, calendars, or contacts to sync from your phone to your mac via iCloud if you use IOS 13.
