ios 13 and itunes support

Does anyone what Apple plans to do regarding itunes and ios 13 support? Apple released today itunes 12.10.0.7 for Windows users which presumably has ios 13 support but there has been no update for mac users. I am running High Sierra 10.13.6

I remember last year Apple made it really complicated for Mac users because they installed ios 12 on their phones but itunes was not recognizing the phone when it was connected. Everyone had to figure out how to get things working again when Apple released a software update to get itunes to recognize ios 12. It was a big pain.

In Finder use the menu item Go > Go to Folder..., copy the following text, paste it into the dialog box and press enter:

/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework/Versions/Current/Resources

Unlock your device and connect it to USB. Double click on MobileDeviceUpdater in the folder that has opened. It should notify you of a software update. Install it and iTunes should hopefully recognize your device.

I'll say it again. My iOS 13 devices can be used with iTunes 12.8.2.3 under High Sierra. I don't know for certain if that build will update from iOS 12 to iOS 13 as I updated by devices over the air, but they should work with it after the fact.

If you have multiple computers, or sufficient hard drive space to create multiple partitions, you can try out Catalina on one while being able to stick to the familiar on another. I stuck a 2GB SSD in my Mac mini and have High Sierra, Mojave and Catalina as I please.

I hit this problem as well and the advice from @turingtest2 is not helpful at all.

I shouldn't have to update my barely year old Mac to an OS I'm not ready to move to just to be able to run the latest iOS on my mobile devices, this is absurd!

I can't move to Catalina because I would lose critical support of 32 bit apps and would also lose the ability to integrate my iTunes library with 3rd party apps that rely on the iTunes exported XML library file which does not function properly in Catalina.

Come on Apple, fix this crap.... why the **** are you trying to push everyone to the latest OS every month now?

Big thanks tt2. 👍

The MobileDeviceUpdater path you outlined was a very easy to follow path (and cheaper!) option than that Apple had in mind! And it worked!

Issue resolved: Syncing an IPhone iOS13.1 with iTunes 12.8.2.3 via a mid-2010 iMac that’s running High Sierra 10.3.6 such that iTunes wouldn’t recognise the USB plugged in iPhone any more, and the iTunes can’t be upgraded with my iMac because the iMac can’t be upgraded to Mojave or Catalina (which was Apple’s solution to resolving the sync issue i.e. “why don’t you buy a new(er) iMac”. 🤬).

Able as a result to fully sync an IPhone 6s that had been “upgraded” to iOS13 .1 with iTunes 12.8.2.3.

Method has also worked with an iPhone 6s that had been upgraded to 13.2.3. 😊

I recently tried using iTunes 12.6.5.3 in High Sierra to rearrange some apps to check that it still worked, and all was going well right up to the point where I wanted to commit the changes. Then I was informed that there were apps on the device that my library wasn't authorised for, and which would be removed. Reauthorizing the computer didn't help. I've also seen another post with similar symptoms. It is therefor possible that Apple have made changes which break iTunes 12.6.5.3 compatibility in iOS 13. If you want to move forward to iOS 13 you may have to give up app management in iTunes.

I was stuck with High Sierra and iTunes 12.8.2.3, iPhone 7, iOS 13.3.1

No phone detected by iTunes, although the phone showed up under USB in 'about this Mac/system report'.

Spent a few hours doing varies self help ideas, phone reset, Mac restarts and trying different cables - to no avail.

App Store wasn't showing any iTunes updates. [although the Catalina version is now 12.10.x I was told]

The VERY helpful Apple support call back directed me to download and install iTunes manually, https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1977?locale=en_US

I did that and still have iTunes 12.8.2.3

- difference is, though, now when I connected the phone an iTubes popup told me extra software needed to be installed (which was I guess like a patch for iOS13 phones etc).

It downloaded and installed, (Took a lot longer than the stated time, though, so, be patient)

and once it was done, iTunes now works as it should

now I can backup my iPhone to the Mac.

phew

Advice from iPhone support had been to install Catalina!

Thanks Apple Support 10/10. Wasted a morning on it, though, so it would have been better if it had been auto updated.

For iOS 12 or later you need iTunes 12.8.0.150 or better running on OS X 10.11.4 or better. See How to upgrade to OS X El Capitan - Apple Support if required. iOS 13 likely requires iTunes 12.8.2.3 or better.

Assuming a suitable version of iTunes is in place then in Finder use the menu item Go > Go to Folder..., copy the following text, paste it into the dialog box and press enter:

/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework/Versions/Current/Resources

Unlock your device and connect it to USB. Double click on MobileDeviceUpdater in the folder that has opened. It should notify you of a software update. Install it and iTunes should hopefully recognize your device.
