iPhone X suddenly won't email photos (or scans) from camera roll

Up until this week, I could go to my camera roll or scan app and send a photo directly there to my email. It still shows that option, but photos never send, nor do I get an error message (and they aren't in my sent inbox). I can open an email and attach a photo from my camera roll - that works. But I need to be able to send from my scan app or camera roll and it's suddenly now working. Any ideas?
